American Idol 2011: Original cowboy John Wayne Schulz makes Hollywood!

Next [[American Idol (2011 Series)|American Idol]] audition comes from John Wayne. No, not that John Wayne. He’s dead. We’re talking about John Wayne Schulz, a real, rootin’ tootin’ cowboy from Karnes City, Texas.

Now, John’s a fine singer. But if you were expecting a macho, buffalo-lassoing, Stetson-wearing, tobacco-spitting cowboy, you’re very much mistaken, my friend. He’s actually quite the mama’s boy. In fact, he first applied to enter American Idol after promising his mother when she was ill in hospital.

Anyway, John sings Believe for the judges, a Brooks and Dunn song. It’s a flawless country vocal, that triggers an emotional reaction in Jennifer Lopez:

That last ‘believe’ almost brought a tear to my eye. I believed that you believed! You have the strength of faith, and I can feel that. It comes out in your singing.

The other judges are equally complimentary. Randy Jackson comments “I feel you man. I get you. I feel you could do really well.” And as John Wayne Schulz prepares to go to Hollywood, his mother tells us “I don’t think America will be disappointed in him.”

Did you guys think John had the right stuff for American Idol’s live shows?
