Best Female Video at MTV's VMAs 2009 - Taylor Swift, Pink, Beyonce and Lady Gaga bring Girl Power to the yard.

I'm pretty sure many people have heard about the Kanye incident at this year's VMAs. Up for the award of Best Female Video were:

• Lady Gaga Poker Face
• Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You
• Beyonce Single Ladies
• Taylor Swift You Belong With Me
• Katy Perry Hot N Cold
• Pink So What

Overall a great cross-section of pop songs and videos. And the winner of the award was Taylor Swift. We talked about Taylor Swift on this site before and I've read a lot of commentary about her on other sites as well. My own opinion of Taylor Swift, as I see her as a person and not relating to her music, is that for someone so young she's achieved a lot and is incredibly talented (she plays the ukelele!), clever and still appears as to be a nice person - she hasn't become a monster of her own success which can often happen with young stars. And, as RandomEnigma pointed out, she's pretty funny.

Which is why, when she won, and you could see the surprise and joy on her face, it was really nice. She's 19, she gets this award to recognise that she's making it in her industry, or maybe she's made it, whichever. She goes on stage to make her speech, and she's beaming with pride, and it's lovely. But then Kanye West comes along and ruins it all by acting like a child throwing his toys out of the pram.

Taylor Swift looks kind of stunned and broken after it and there's no blaming her for that, it's someone coming up and interrupting her to basically say she didn't deserve the award - after he leaves they break into the show with video footage of... something. He's a thirty-something year-old man, he should have known better - perhaps he issued an apology after and yes, we all do things we're ashamed of, but does that give him the right to go and ruin someone else's evening? I think not. Even Beyonce looked embarrassed.

And when Beyonce won Video of the Year, she had the grace to do this:

It was an unexpected kindness, and something she didn't have to do at all but look how thrilled Taylor Swift looks, once again, allowed to have her moment.

And look at how pretty they look matched up in red dresses! And Katy Perry cheering Taylor Swift on. I'm pretty sure Lady Gaga was also cheering but she seemed to be hidden in a bird's nest. And Pink tweeting about Kanye:

Edit: Even that song I once couldn't bear because of the radio overkill? I've recently found myself turning it up when it's on.
