Chris Brown begs fans to save his music career

Chris Brown has written to his fans, begging them to save his music career.

After he attacked his former girlfriend Rihanna last year, many radio stations are reportedly refusing to play his music.

Chris has now issued a video message to fans via SayNow, saying: "I ain't never really did this but right now I need all of my fans' help.

"It's crazy because a lot of radio stations aren't playing my records. They're not being that supportive and I wouldn't expect them to." The R&B star continued to explain.

"It's on the fans and what you guys do in your power to bring me back because that's all I need. Nothing else will do that except for the fans."

"There's nothing else that I can do. I'm doing everything that I need to do. I'm doing me as a person and I'm a better guy." The 'Kiss Kiss' singer added.

"My singing and my music I do it for you guys and everything else but it won't be possible if I'm not relevant on the radio and it wouldn't be possible for me to be an artist if I don't have any support.

"I just want all my fans to help me. I love y'all. Peace." Brown said.

I'm puzzled by blacklisting

I understand he did something really bad but I think its a bit ridiculous to blacklist him from radio because of it. It also makes me wonder why its so hard for Black stars (and athletes) to recover from poor personal decisions. I'm sure Chris is not the first musician to be involved in a domestic violence situation and Tiger is certainly not the first athlete to commit adultury. But somehow they're names are dragged through the mud as if they committed murder. I'd really hate to pull the race card here, but it does seem disproportionate and I'm willing to venture that these sort of blacklistings are--whether consciously or unconsciously--racially motivated.

Hi Kim - long time no see!

Hi Kim - long time no see! Thanks for stopping by and commenting today.

Here in the UK, the national press seem to be on a witch-hunt looking for celebrities caught with their pants down. They don't seem to be discriminating on the basis of race either, there are mostly white male celebs in the frame at the moment. The exception being Ashley Cole.

On the domestic violence front though, I can't remember any white celebrities who've had their reputation ruined on the back of a domestic violence story. Well, except for a Coronation Street actress a few years ago, but the story's mostly faded now, as has the woman in question.

I have mixed feelings on Chris Brown though - should we crucify him on the basis of one event? Let's call it a mistake. Has he learned his lesson? Hopefully. I think he has. And, funnily enough, his last couple of singles have been pretty good. But they're not getting airplay. He's blacklisted on the basis of this one event. The big question is - can the public ever see past that story and buy his music in significant numbers again?

I'm not so sure about that part. The fact that he's even had to take the unusual move of rallying his fans to buy the records suggests that his career is already six feet under. I'm not saying it's fair, but I'd suggest the pop world won't mourn his loss. I've already suggested that Jason Derulo is a worthy (more contemporary) replacement. What do you think?
