Eurostar Make 30,000 Seats Available At A Special Price Of £89 to Stranded Passengers

Eurostar, the high-speed passenger train service that links the UK and mainland Europe, has announced that between Tuesday 20 and Sunday 25 April inclusive, all 30,000 of the available standard class seats on its trains will be on offer at a special price of £89 one-way.

To help stranded passengers get to their destinations Eurostar is organising extra trains and running as many services as possible. Between Monday and Sunday this week, Eurostar will run at least 28 additional trains. Over the next seven days, nearly four hundred trains will run between the UK and the continent.

Nicolas Petrovic, Chief Executive of Eurostar, said:

“We are doing everything in our power to help as many passengers as we possibly can at this difficult time. Given that the current situation looks set to continue for the coming days, we are putting on extra trains and making 30,000 seats available at a special price. We know that people are stranded across Europe and we want to do all we can to get people where they need to be.”

Since flights were grounded last Thursday as a result of the ash cloud caused by an erupting Icelandic volcano, Eurostar has put on 33 additional trains and has carried 165,000 passengers – 50,000 more than were scheduled to travel during this period.

Over the last four days, passengers have been connecting with Eurostar services from destinations across Europe with customers connecting from Germany, Spain, Italy and even as far as Greece.

Given the high level of demand, seats on Eurostar are selling quickly and customers are advised to go to www.eurostar.com to check availability and make their booking.

Special Price?

Wow a one way ticket, at a special rate of only £89?

This certainly is nice for someone. OKay, true this may come in handy for some people but lets be honest, eurostar is going to profit off this unfortunate turn of event. Not that I hold that against them, they are a business. I just take offense if it truly is being presented as a 'special price'.

I think a special price would be closer to £54 to help out those possibly low on funds. Of course I say this mostly because I recently purchased a round trip ticket for the same price as the one-way.

Lisa got stranded in London

Lisa got stranded in London for four days last week. She went over for a short trip for a press launch and ended up stuck. Luckily she was staying with her sister, so we were fairly relaxed about her getting home. Well, I was.

So this is a public service announcement, given that she's got a lot of sympathy for anyone who's stranded away from home right now.

What about you Jeffrey? Will all this volcanic activity affect your trip to the UK?

London Trip?

It will if Heathrow is still closed next month.
