National Television Awards 2013- What a night!
So the National Television Awards was back on our television this week and what a night is was with lots of winners, performances from Kimberly Walsh, Ella from the X Factor and Pudsey performing Gangnam Style!
Dermot O'Leary was back presenting the show and we got a comical opening sequence where he tried to copy Daniel Craig and the Queen's scene from the Olympics. David Walliams was funny as normal in the sequence pretending to be the baddie from Skyfall. Dermot did a good job during the show, I thought his remarks when Strictly won was funny when he said Simon wouldn't be happy and when Ant and Dec won the award for the 12th time. I do think Dermot would be next in line to get the award if Ant and Dec weren't about. Although I like Keith Lemon and Alan Carr just as much so all four of them are worthy winners.
The performances during the night were interesting. Kimberly Walsh sang old classic, 'One Day I'll Fly Away' which has been heavily criticised since the show aired. I personally thought some of it sounded okay, but it wasn't the greatest version. I think her album might bomb, like Nadine's, which is a shame as Kimberly comes across as a lovely girl. Also Ella who had a shock early exit from the X Factor performed Cher's 'Believe' and she sounded great and she looked fabulous. I thought it was weird that James didn't perform instead but Ella did a fab job and I still can't get over she's only 16. Also Ashleigh and Pudsey were back on stage performing a cute routine of Gangnam style which was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed their performance. We also had Dermot and Darcey dancing which was interesting. It wasn't set up very well so didn't really know what was going on, but was still fun anyway.
Some of the winners surprised me and I was disappointed that a few of my favourites missed out. The soaps had a good night, especially Corrie who scooped best serial drama. I was surprised they won but I think they deserve it after quite a few good storylines over the last year. Alan Halsall won the best serial drama performance and I was very pleased for him after being in the soap for a long time and I think he has portrayed poor Tyrone very well especially during the Molly stuff and now with his domestic abuse storyline. It was sweet when he addressed his wife Lucy-Jo Hudson and I hope he wins more at the Soap Awards. Eastenders scooped one award for best newcomer which went to David Witts AKA Joey Branning. He is a good looking guy and I think this partly went down to his win. He reminds me of a young Dennis and I think he could be just as popular. His award speech was a bit awkward when he thanked his girlfriend and got booed. I don't think the audience should of booed his poor girlfriend but also he shouldn't have really told them off, after all they voted for him, would have been best to ignore it. I think he will stay in Eastenders a little while yet.
The daytime programme award went to This Morning. I was disappointed Jeremy Kyle didn't win it as I don't believe he has won an award yet at the NTA's and he's been going a long time now. I still really like This Morning so maybe it will be Jeremy's time next year. I was disappointed for Mrs Biggs as both Sheridan and Daniel missed out on an award for Best Drama performance male and female respectively and I thought they were both tremendous in their roles for that show. However I know Merlin is very popular and also Miranda is very good. As discussed earlier Ant and Dec won the Entertainment presenter of the year as they always do and they were filming BGT so they couldn't be there. Simon gave them their award and said hi to Nicola which I think he meant Nicole who was giving out the award! I'm looking forward to BGT being back on our screens again.
Situation comedy went to Mrs Brown's Boys and we finally saw the actor behind the character Agnes and Brendan seemed overwhelmed to win the award. He explained that his whole family work on the show which I thought was very sweet and I think the show is hilarious and they deserved their win. It was funny watching June Brown give out the award as I think she had been drinking a lot as she wouldn't hand it over which was awkward!
I'm A Celebrity beat off competition to win the best entertainment programme which I think it deserved as it was really good last year. Ashley Roberts and Helen Flanagan picked up the award as Ant and Dec were off as BGT and I think that it will definitely be around for a long time. Talent Show was another big award which was won by Strictly. After having huge figures compared to the X Factor they took the title and Tess picked up the award. I think it was their turn to win even though I didn't watch Strictly and I loved X Factor. I think X Factor will be spiced up this year and will definitely win that award in 2014.
So it will be interesting to see what TV brings for us in 2013 and who we may see receiving their awards next year.
