The Office: Could Danny McBride or Rhys Darby be Steve Carell's replacement?
With the news that Steve Carell is leaving The Office breaking just over a month ago, we're hearing now that the producers are already looking for his replacement - and about how that character might be written into the show!
Two of the actors rumoured to be contenders for the job are Rhys Darby (Flight Of The Conchords) and Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down). Since Conchords has been cancelled, it's believed that Darby might be persuaded to appear, whereas McBride seems to currently be wrapped up in his current series. Time will tell, I guess.
One thing's for sure, stepping into Carell's shoes will be a big task. It's not clear at the moment if the newcomer to the Dunder Mifflin team will be hired to replace Carell's character, Michael Scott, or if they'll be hired as a salesperson. It might be less pressure on the show if an established character takes over the reins, rather than a change of management. What do you think?
Interestingly, Screen Rant speculates that viewers might get to see the hiring process behind the new cast member:
Lieberstein (who also plays Toby on the show) indicated that the real life search for Carell’s replacement is something that would be mirrored on the show with the company’s search for Michael Scott’s replacement. As fans of The Office debate whether or not someone new should be brought onboard or an existing member of the ensemble get promoted, the same issues will be addressed within the show.
One thing's for sure, replacing one of the lynchpins of The Office is going to be serious business, especially for the future of a show in its seventh series.
Question for the fans: what do you think of Darby or McBride as possible replacements? Are there any other names you'd throw into the hat?
