Dexter season 6 casting call reveals new characters

It’s time to get excited, [[Dexter (TV Series)|Dexter]] fans! According to TVLine, the sixth season of the show goes into production at the end of May.

Michael Ausiello reports that three role are being cast for the upcoming season – giving us some hints at what new characters might appear on the show:

  1. Jamie (female): Described as an outgoing and fun Latina in her mid-20s, this Florida native relocates to Miami for grad school. Does this indicate a possible romantic storyline for Dexter?
  2. Chicago Mike (male): New thirtysomething African-American homicide detective who possesses a finely turned BS detector. The Windy City native does not play well with Dexter others.
  3. Louis (male): A buddy of Masuka’s (C.S. Lee) who joins MMP as a new lab intern. Role calls for a Caucasian actor in his 30s who is “attractive in his own way.”

Chicago Mike sounds like the Second Coming Of Doakes, doesn’t he? Certainly with two sets of fresh eyes (still attached to their owners, for now), Dexter will have to make sure he doesn’t leave any evidence of his nocturnal activities. Especially with a friend of Masuka’s working in the lab – that’ll mean less space for Dexter to do his police database lookups!

The Jaime character may just be a random female, but after Dexter almost found a soulmate in Lumen last year, might he be craving a female companion/cover story? I don’t know, but time will tell.

One thing’s for sure, after season 5 saw Dexter coming closer than ever to being discovered by Debra, I stand by my original thinking that Dexter should really be thinking about its endgame this season. Not that I won’t miss the show, but there’s potential for an explosive finale if the series builds to Debra finding out or Dexter being caught by someone like Quinn. Though there’d be more drama if it was Angel – a close friend who would be devastated to discover Dexter was a serial killer.

Season 6 of Dexter is likely to air in September 2011.
