Does American Idol need a power couple? Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink think so.

This toothy couple think that they could become [[American Idol (2011 Series)|American Idol]]’s first-ever power couple. Not if I have anything to do with it.

The smilers in the above picture are Nick Fink and Jacqueline Dunford – a ‘couple’ from Scottsdale, Arizona who both think they could rule this year’s Idol. But are they even really a couple? Veteran Idol watchers like MJs Big Blog and TMZ (and me!) believe that the relationship is just an act. Certainly, their smarmy video piece was beyond cheesy and Fink’s geeky permagrin was thoroughly annoying.

In the judging room, however, the couple performed separately. Jacqueline went first with a somewhat screechy version of Duffy’s Mercy. Randy quips that at least Nick likes her singing, and it takes her a minute to work out who he’s talking about “Oh, my boy!”

Nick goes on to perform a rather mediocre version of Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning. I’d expected more from this guy, because he looks like a bit of a nerdy joker. Sadly, he’s missing stage presence. At least he was on that day. Can he be better in Hollywood? Who knows?

The pair got sent through to Hollywood with relative ease. But there’s a big question mark hanging over their heads – if they are a planted act, it’ll hit the audience’s trust in American Idol at a time when it was actually regaining some credibility. People are loving the new judging panel and vibe the show has, so featuring auditions from people who don’t seem quite real like this pair and Courtney Penry may not go over well with the fans.

What’s your take on Jacqueline and Nick – are they a real couple or a pair of fakers?
