SONG REVIEW:
Elliot Minor have always been one of the more interesting pop rock groups to come out in recent times, they combined the piano rock of Keane (who like these guys are of a higher class background) and the emo stylings of The All-American Rejects.

This new song, the first single from their upcoming, sophomore album sees them hover on the line between downbeat ballad and angsty emo rocker. With a rather classy piano backing with some strings thrown in for good measure, Discover (Why The Love Hurts) sounds promising but unfortunately for these guys the song is ultimately forgettable. They have produced far better songs than this and if this is the song they are releasing as the first single, I have low hopes for the new album. The chorus is pretty poor too and Alex Davies’ mournful, whiny vocals can become a bit grating on this song, even for his large emo fanbase.

VIDEO REVIEW:
Whoa! This song bears more than a passing resemblance to Blazin’ Squad’s upcoming video Let’s Start Again. Like that named video, Discover Why Love Hurts is set in a nightime urban, Japanese city with plenty of attention being paid to Japanese culture such as large posters of anime characters and those crazy city lines.

While alternating between a lighted band performance and singer Alexander Davies walking around singing into a megaphone while getting the Japanese locals to do the same, the video isn’t the most exciting one you are to see this year but for an indie band like Elliot Minor, you have to admire them for going out there and shooting the video in beautiful Japan rather than going for the boring performance video in the b;and studio like many other indie artists.

I think it’s a very beautiful song… it sums of Alex’s feelings really… why distrespct his feelings. His vocals are spot on… at least he can sing unlike some artist who actually can’t sing. See Elliot Minor live and you’ll change your opinion on them totally.

and ’emo’ is just a label that gets thrown around too much… Elliot Minor arn’t ’emo’… Bring Me The Horizon are ’emo’ Elliot Minor are much better than that 🙂

I have seen these guys live and they’re fantastic but just because I’m a fan doesn’t mean that I have to give every song of there’s 5 stars! When reviewing songs, you have to be objective and I just felt this song was sorely lacking in what Elliot Minor normally produce. Yes, Alex has a beautiful voice but a beautiful voice doesn’t nessecarily make a good song. Emo is a music genre, I’ll use it if I like. They are and I don’t mean to use it as an insult! if you would like to review this song then feel free to do so but I’ve expressed my opinion and I’m not changing it!
