X Factor Auditions 2010

Hey guys! I just thought I'd start a topic about this year's X Factor Auditions.

I've auditioned myself a few times

If anyone needs to discuss anything about waiting for phonecalls for their next auditions, separate city auditions etc. or anything regarding X Factor this is the place to ask and for people just to share experiences too.

Also (for those who have been re-directed here) if anyone wants to start a topic about something specific regarding the auditions then all you have to do is click onto the forum at the top blue bar and click on audition junkies then start a new topic :)

:)

Auditions: Which cities?

Hey Scott, any idea at this stage which cities are being visited for auditions? Usually London, Manchester, Birmingham and a few others is it?

WelshSinger's picture

Yes, this year they started

Yes, this year they started with Glasgow and Manchester, they did Cardiff (which i went to yesterday 22nd of April) Then theres Birmingham, London and of course Dublin this year :D

Auditions

Hiya,

I saw on the XF website that people who were meant to go to the Glasgow auditions could re-audition in other cities if they got affected by the volcanic ash.

Does anyone know if this applies to other cities that may have been affected?

I was meant to audition in Cardiff on Wednesday, but was stuck in Canada. I emailed TBT via the email provided on the website, but as yet have heard nothing, and am aware time is slowly running out..

Thanks,

I know, tell me about it!lol

Anyway...

Thanks for the info Scott, looks like I'm gonna be taking a trip to London.. Hmmm.. x

What is The Start Time for London Auditions?

Hi there,

I wanted to find out what time the auditions start for london, as I never recieved a conformation Email and I know That they usually tell you what time to be there for, but obviously as its open auditions this year doesit make a difference? As I want to be there early as I know people usually camp overnight too. So if anyone does know an info then please can you post and let me know thanks.

and good luck all you auditionees.

London!!

Hey guys,

Are the auditions based on quotas do you think? So the earlier you go the better chance you have of going through? A friend said they start putting through loads at the beginning and realise they have to slow down so best to turn up real early right?

Are any of you going to the London auditions??

Charlie :)

WelshSinger's picture

hey ...no i wouldnt think

hey ...no i wouldnt think they would do it on quotas... on the first day it either youre good or youre funny.. it think thats the brief lol.

and i think they say 8am. so i would get there hours before

Xfactor Audition 2010 London

Hi all,

I have got my audition this saturday and was just wondering if anyone had auditioned at one of the other places and knew how the actually did it. What happens when you get to the Excel? how many ppl is your first audition in front of?

How many rounds there are before getting through 2 judges audition?

Im so excited its unbelieveable.

James

carolanne80's picture

audition sequence.

Hi James

I auditioned in 2008, and bascially on the first day of auditions the have about 20 little booths with one producer or employee of the x factor sitting behind each one, what they did the year i was there at the 02 was call each row of people from their seats and queue about 5 five people behind the booths and then they go in one by one and you get about 2 minutes or less to sing your song without any music to the poducer they will then stop you and either tell you yes your in, and give you what they call  a golden ticket for you to return for the call backs or a no, it doesn't matter what time you get there even if your first in you could still be told no. it depends on what they are looking for that year. But you usually have to audition 3 times infont of producers before you get the chance to see the judges that is the final audition.

Good Luck.

Hey scott, Do you know any

Hey scott,

Do you know any information on the london auditions? I know its sat & sunday next week but say if you get through on the sunday do you know when the next audition is? Or even could you find out for me? x

Hi Scott - do you know if

Hi Scott - do you know if there is any significant parking available at ExCel London for X-Factor Auditions next weekend? I am planning to be there for 6ish - i live in Beds but would rather get seen earlier rather than later!!!

yum mum's picture

yes!

hi mrSusan, the excel has a HUGE underground carpark. im really not sure of the prices - the kind you would expect for london i s'pose, but you can pay by debit card at the ticket machine if you dont have enough cash, which is quite handy.

i would put plenty on your ticket if i were you,as you may not leave until teatime!,

WelshSinger's picture

hey sophie.. its usually the day after the first rounds :)

and mr susan.. i would assume thered be parking.. in the cardiff ones there was a huge car park.. although designated areas will be given :)

How did you do?

Hi Scott - How did you get on with your audition this year?

Got mine on Sunday at the ExCell, hopefully it will be a nice day weather wise!

Last year, for the Ldn auditions, it was at the O2 arena, and if you got through the first round, you got a golden ticket, then you were given another date for another venue (it was the Emirates last year) where you saw some exec producers, then if you got through to the third round, you were interviewed and filmed singing for the executive producers, then you were told they would make thier decisions and phone or write to you in the next few weeks. (lol!!) Then after a what seemed an endless wait,  If you got a yes phone call or a yes letter you were through to the stage auditions in front of the audience (they changed that last year at the last min!!). It was a good journey, but be prepared for a long, long wait ... take a fold  up chair, and some carton drinks, and a few snacks to keep you going (You can tell I'm a Mum, preperation is key! lol!)

Most of all enjoy the experience!! Have fun! xx

WelshSinger's picture

:)

helloo!!! yes i got through thanks for asking.. im just waiting now 6-8 weeks lol

good luck for yours xx

Singing X Factor EXCEL

HEy, Scott... So if I am right... You sing in front of everybody - I mean ...these booths - others can hear you? Not like audience, but if the booths are next to each other, it can really bothers your singing...? So no special interviews before 3rd audition, right?

WelshSinger's picture

:)

hey.. no it has never bothered me... its just like a murmur of noise.. i think everyone blocks out the noise naturally.. you dont need to worry about everyone hearing you as there are so many booths there. Plus everyone i shaving their own separate conversations whilst waiting :)

Did anybody try out in

Did anybody try out in Birmingham at the weekend? How did it go?

joanne singh's picture

i took my 16 year old

i took my 16 year old daughter to birmingham she got a fantastic voice we got there at 6.45am she got seen at 4pm and got told she was good but not good enough so can anyone tell me how some get through who aint gotta a clue how to sing its such ashame for all those good singers out there who get rejected

WelshSinger's picture

awh

awh thats a shame joanne! Maybe if she goes back next year she'll get further... its a horrible feeling knowing the funny acts are getting through and youre not but it is a tv show and they need their entertainment as theres many viewers who only watch for this element of the show. wish her good luck from me and i hope she has a break in the future :)

Hi,

I'm just having the biggest panic ever. Are the callbacks always the day after? I have a lot of travelling to do to get there so it would be useful to know if I need to drive up and down the country the same day or a few days later.

WelshSinger's picture

yes

the callbacks are usually the day after the first audition.. or if like in london.. the day after the 2 first days (as there are two first audition days) :)

Audition Days In London

Hi Scott,

Let me undestand this correctly... Do you mean that people wanting to audition in London can turn up either on 1st or 2nd May and they will be seen?  I thought that everyone that turned up on 1st May would be seen and whoever gets through will be asked to come back on 2nd May so the oportunity to audtion for the first time will be on 1st May.  If this is not the case then it would help me a great deal.  I have a family wedding on 1st May and was set to miss it in order to audition.  I would really appreciate if you can please confirm the correct scenario so I don't miss out on the audition by turning up on 2nd May instead of 1st May.

WelshSinger's picture

hi cityworker

hi sorry i cant confirm it 100% but i can tell you this has been the case in past year with 2 and someitmes 3 initial days of auditioning before the callbacks.. what i can do is give you the number for talkback thames so you can ask to be put through to the x factor representative who will be able to confirm this for you.. the number is 02076916000 hope this helps :)

James Quame C's picture

Hiya all,

Hiya all,

Getting really nervous about my audition on Saturday, has anyone got any advice, on auditioning. I mean i know that the killer for most is the nerves. Is the setup still looking to be the same with the booths.

Really Really Really lookin forward to my audtion.

James

And a massive thank u 2 Carolanne80 for the info on her audition in 2008

ScarlettRose's picture

hi city worker

The 2nd of May is also for 1st auditions, My audition date is 2nd May and my friends audition is 1st May, I don't know about just turning up for them but the confirmations we have recieved show that there are 2 dates for initial auditions. Hope that helps, just don't drink too much at the wedding lol. Good Luck.

WelshSinger's picture

:D

excellent ! thanks for that scarlett im sure loads will benefit from it.

MrSusan's picture

Tips???

Scott is their any particular type of song to choose? Is it definitely a verse and a chorus only?

WelshSinger's picture

songs...

the best thing to do is choose something that you are comfortable with and shows off your voice without chooseing a cliche belter. The amount of songs vary from person to person.. once in round 2 auditions i was asked to sing 4 songs.. then put through. but this year. i sing one and then one to a backing track for the execs :)

Recall dates 2010 4th/5th/6th May

Hi Guys,

If I'm lucky enough to get a recall from the auditions this weekend 2nd April are you given a recall date or can you choose one from 4/5/6th May? It's just that I can't make one of them :-(

Cheers, Martin.

Audition Days in London

Hi Scott and Scarlett,

Many thanks for the info which is most useful... does anyone have an opinion or any idea whether they are looking for strong vocals or a performance this year so a ballad rather than an up tempo track??.  I know it is difficult to call it but I just wondered if people that have already auditioned managed to get some indication.

Many thanks.

WelshSinger's picture

hi cityworker

i honestly think they decide when theyve seen everyone what they are looking for.. i dont think there is a brief as such.. just talent and of course its contradiction.

MrSusan's picture

2nd round

did you get to choose the 2 songs for the callback - do you need to bring your own backing track

WelshSinger's picture

yes :)

you get to choose :) prepare a few.. 3 or 4.

and yes its optional but i took a backing track and they asked me for it when they saw me.

London callbacks

Hi just wondering if you knew where the London callback auditions are on 4th May?

I auditioned and got through in Manchester but I was away during the callbacks so they slotted me into a London audition. They were supposed to call and let me know the location but as of yet Ive got no idea where it is.

I rang the helpline which just put me onto a stupid answer machine. Any help would be much appreciated xx

Yes.. i got through this year via video audition. They got hold of me on the monday ..the audition was on the thursday. They sent me an email and they rung me. This was for cardiff. if you sent in your video after the date for your regional auditions i wouldve thought they will send you to london if you are successful.. otherwise you will recieve an email saying you arent through.

I'm auditioning at the ExCel on Sunday, starting to get quite nervous now but excited too! Still trying to decide which song I'm going to sing first! What time is everyone planning on getting there for?

Hi Scott, if you get through to the re-call do you sing acapella or with a backing track? Also when you sung Everything with the backing track was it with a mic or just on your own?

Kayleigh xx

To go or not to go..alone!

Hey everyone

Someone who I was supposed to be going to the auditions with on Sunday in London has pulled out so I'm all alone!

Was wondering whether there's other people out there who are alone and would like to meet up before hand, because to be honest, I'm not going to stand around in that queue for hours on my own!

I'm 22, male and at university. If anybody would like to keep me company at the auditions and vice versa then just reply here or message me on this website.

Passed the first hurdle

Hi people.

For those that haven't auditioned yet.....

Myself, my daugter, my boyfriend, Mum and Sister all turned up at 7.30 at the Excel and que'd up for 9 hours before I got seen. Throughout the wait I could hear all these young beautiful girls and boys singing and thought "bugger that, I'm not getting through, not if that's the competition". Anyway, 9 hours later I finally get my chance to sing, I'm shaking like a leaf (I can even feel my head shaking). The judge was a lovely lady and when I finally finished (which felt like forever) she handed me a ticket! Me? 33 year old mother of 2 got a ticket to go through to the next round. Yay! I work hard at the weekends entertaining people with my band playing at pubs and thought, if I don't get through it this year then that's it, pub singing for the rest of my life!

I'm not a big fan of over confident people but if you have the confidence to believe in yourself and believe that you can get through then good for you. Me on the other hand thought I was just going to be disguarded and thrown on the heap with the rest of them......little did I know, somebody actually liked what they heard.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

Call backs

Hi Everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me-I auditioned at the Excel yesterday and got through, and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through the callbacks already and knows the format. For example, in the first audition of the callbacks, are we required to sing just a verse and a chorus acapella or do we need to sing a whole song? And if you get through to the second audition, will they ask you sing with a backing track, or do they ask you to sing both with and without music? Do you also need to sing the same song in the second audition of the callbacks as the first? It doesn't really give much away in the letter and both auditions are on the same day, so I would love to hear other people's experiences so I can be as prepared as possible!

Thank you!

WelshSinger's picture

hi cityworker

well there isnt really an answer im afraid as its totally different for everyone. Basically the format is... you wait in the first holding room for your first recall.. once called into the audition room the producers talk to you briefly and then ask you what you are going to sing.. and you sing a verse and chorus of that song. Then they can ask you to sing as many other songs as they feel like... (as said before i got asked for 4 last year) and then its a yes or no. If its then a yes.. you go down to a second holding room where you wait for a researcher to talk to you and ask you all about yourself and take a picture/fill in forms. When you eventually get into the executive producer audition.. they will once again talk to you briefly.. then they ask you if you have a backing track.. (which i did..so i gave it to the girl behind the cd player) and then i sung the Whole song.. (which was different to my a'capella song in the first audition) but lots and lots of people didnt have a backing track and so basically its just the same as the previous audition. :)

hope this helps

Hi Scott - had another look at your videos and have to say that the Michael Buble cover 'Everything' is really good - you are just what they like, boy next door approachability, good looks and can sing on key! if you don't get through there is no justice - good luck, and good luck to everyone who is waiting to hear if they are through to the judges.  What reason did they give you last time for not getting further ..I'm intrigued to know what's changed to make them put you through to the next round...do you think you have improved since then?

WelshSinger's picture

hey thanks very much :D much appreciated.

i didnt get a reason last time.. i waited for the letter which was pretty generic lol but im guessing its Age Factor :) and yes every knockback is experience which you can use to your advantage. i love the process lol.

X FACTOR CONFIRMATION LETTER

Hey guys, i need help!!

i applied to x factor by loading a video, and i got through to the next round, in my confirmation letter it tells me to keep the 4th May available (which i thought would be my audition date) however they told me they were going to ring me with more details, and they havent! so heres my dilemma! it makes sense that the audition is tomorrow, as its so close to the london open auditions, but ive flown back for spain for the audition and no one has rang me! im so confused as what to do, as being bank holiday i dont think i will get a phone call!

i can post the first paragraph of the letter if need be. xx

WelshSinger's picture

hey clover :D

congratulations on getting through to the next round.

i did the same process as you witht he video etc. and they usually ring you the same day you recieve the email so im guessing if you were in spain they failed to contact you. basically the same information is given in the email and the phonecall is just so that you are reminded of the email. is your time on the email? usually the times are 7:30.. 12:30 and 4:30 slots for the recalls. In my audition in cardiff there was only 6 video applicants in my slot and we all auditioned after everyone else.. (6 out of a few hundred is an achievement) if you dont know your time my advice would be to go to the earliest slot and just explain your situation.. whatever happens i think they will be accomodating to your situation :) good luck!!

Hi Clover If no-one contacts

Hi Clover

If no-one contacts you you need to go along at the time quoted on your letter. It will say keep 040510 at whatever time free. Go at this time as you will be on their list for 2nd round callbacks. This happened to a friend of mine - no-one contacted her and she missed her audition. She didn't realise you were to go along anyway although it didn't actually confirm where the callback venue was! The video callbacks have been a bit disorganised I think. You'll need to find out if callbacks are at the Excel and head on down on 4th May at your allotted time. My friend eventually phoned X Factor and was told to go to the next city for her audition, got through to 3rd round so all's well that ends well.

Excel call backs

hey

i have done x factor 4 times but it is only this year that i have made it through to the next round. Is it worth camping over night ( i got to the excel 11:30 pm Friday night and camped over for 1st auditions) are the queues gonna be as ridiculously long as they always are at the first round?!?!

Will the simon cowell round be the auditions following this one?!? (if i get thru will it be the next audition?!)

Thanks

Nicole :)

WelshSinger's picture

hi there :)

Absolutely not lol. There will be 3 slots in the day consisting of a few hundred in each. get there about an hour or so earlier than it says :) everyone is let in at the same time anyway and your audition time is based on how early you auditioned the day before as the earliest numbers are called out first. :) If you get through first round of the day youll go and have another audition and then youll find out in 6 to 8 weeks if you see the tv judges :)

TheDivineMissN's picture

hey

thanks for the info

i will probs end up camping over night anyway, as its bank holiday and i live in Medway and the trains wont get me to the Excel in the morning for half 6! my audition slot is 7:30am anyways.

as long as i know i wont have to stay outside for too long in the morning or wait too long for the audition!

Still problem

hey guys thank you for the advice, it has really helped, but i dont have a time on my email or even where the audition is, so i am assuming that they will be at the excel due to the fact the open auditions will be there, but i hate to assume. i wish i was sure. There was an xfactor hotline that i rang and left a message but again noone has got back to me,

so do you think i should just go straight to the x factor audition tomorrow morning and head for the excel centre? what if its not there?

WelshSinger's picture

clover

It will be there. all second rounds have been held at the same venues :)

and most times have been 7:30 12:30 and 4:30 so if you dont know your time then just go there for the morning slot and they will be fine about it just explain your situation :)

yeahyeah's picture

Any tips?

Hi Scott, would you like to let us know how the second auditions was this year? they are looking for something definite. How should we go about in the second round, what questions did they asked you?

WelshSinger's picture

hii

Hey there :D all i will say is.. embrace the experience.. go along with what they ask of you and get stuck in. Choose songs that show off what you want to show with your voice ..i personally avoid big belters. show as much personality as you can and smile!! When the researcher asks you about yourself make sure you make the profile interesting ;) haha. Good luck :)

Time scale for notification

Has anyone any experience of getting in front olf the judges? we got through as a group on Sunday and had two further auditions today. I am curious as to how much sooner they notify the successful candidates than the letter to the unsuccessful ones....would it still be 4 weeks????

Good luck all
