HBO’s epic fantasy series Game Of Thrones has already been renewed for its second series. After only one episode has been aired!
The launch episode aired in the States on 17th of April and the very next day on Sky Atlantic in the UK. With an incredibly positive reaction from fans and critics alike, HBO have decided to commit to a second season. As if it was going to be rubbished, with a massive existing fanbase that HBO) were careful to impress and a stellar cast and writing.
HBO’s president of programming, Michael Lombardo made the announcement about season two of Game Of Thrones this morning:
We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers. This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership.
Obviously, this is excellent news for the series and the legion of fans it’s certain to amass. One of the frequent criticisms of American television is that series’ are regularly cancelled, leaving viewers frustrated at the amount of time they invested in watching. With an early committment to a second season, HBO are being bullish about the popularity of the series and giving fans the confidence that they can get engrossed in the series without fear of it being cancelled.
My review of the Game Of Thrones pilot is on Unreality Primetime – I’m a huge fan already, and looking forward to a fantasy drama with guts and all the sex, violence and intrigue Game Of Thrones promises!
