Last night, X Factor marked 10 series with spectacular including current contestants singing hit tunes, old contestants making an appearance and a special performance from Olly Murs. Here’s a look at my favourite contestants from the last 10 series
Judges have come and go but Louis Walsh has stuck around the whole time. Simon was on the show till 2010 and then he went to the US to make a start on X Factor USA. Sharon Osbourne left back in 2007 and has made a spectacular return this year. Danni Minogue was on the show for 3 years and Cheryl was on there for two. We also had Kelly Rowland for one year and Tulisa for two. Nicole is in her second year with Gary Barlow also being on the panel now for his third year. My favourite panel was the original one with Louis, Sharon and Simon but the current one is quite fun too.
Here’s a look at my favourite contestants over the 10 series.
Series 1 was won by Steve Brookstein with Simon but he wasn’t my favourite and I agreed with Sharon Osbourne at the time. My favourite from Series 1 was Tabby Callaghan. The rock dude was awesome and I loved his versions of ‘Addicted to Love’ and ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’. We haven’t really had a good rock star since (despite James Archer who was quite good). I was gutted when he was booted out in the semi-final!
Series 2 was won by Shayne Ward with Louis and he went on to have quite a good career. My favourite of the series was bin man Andy Abraham. He was very down to earth and I loved his performance of ‘Me and Mrs Jones’. He got to second place but losvt out to Shayne. He went on to do Eurovision and since then has been quiet.
Series 3 was won by Leona Lewis with Sharon and she has gone on to sell millions worldwide. She was actually my favourite of the series with her incredible voice. Ray Quinn came second and he has done quite well in the musical sector. Leona’s performances of ‘Over the Rainbow’ and ‘I Have Nothing’.
Series 4 was won by Leon Jackson who was with new judge Danni Minogue. He had success with his first album but unfortunately got dropped and has disappeared since. He was a shock winner and I quite liked Niki Evans who got booted out in fourth place. I really enjoyed her ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Fields Of Gold’. Rhydian was really good though and I enjoyed his performances too.
Series 5 was won by Alexandra Burke who was with new judge Cheryl Cole and has gone on to be successful. The star wasn’t my favourite though. I really liked Diana Vickers. Her voice was really different and quirky and I thought she was going to win but again she went out fourth. I loved her version of ‘White Flag’. JLS who came second have done the best.
Series 6 was won by Joe McElderry who was with Cheryl Cole. He has gone on to do quite well, moving over to classical music more. My favourite that series was Stacey Solomon who did brilliant performances including Queen’s ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’. Although she came third, she has gone on to win I’m a Celeb and also has moved on to presenting. I loved Olly Murs too and he has gone on to be hugely successful.
Series 7 was won by Matt Cardle who was with Danni Minogue. I really loved Matt and he has gone on to do well, despite being dropped from Syco. I loved his performances of ‘Nights In White Satin’ and ‘The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face’. Rebecca was really good too and One Direction came around this series, coming a surprising third, considering their success now. I really liked Aiden Grimshaw too and was gutted when he left.
Series 8 was won by Little Mix who were with Tulisa and have done very well worldwide. They were definitely my favourite with great performances such as ‘E.T’ and ‘Let Go’ and they still seem very down to earth now. I really liked Janet Devlin and thought she would win earlier in the series. Johnny Robinson was also really fun.
Series 9 was won by James Arthur who was with new judge Nicole Scherzinger. I like James Arthur and he was definitely my favourite from the start to win. Unfortunately he has had really bad press recently but he is still a great artist. I loved his version of ‘Let’s get it on’ and ‘Impossible’. I really liked Jahmene too.
Series 10 has been interesting so far with original favourites such as Tamera not doing so well now. Luke Friend has really come into his own and he is my favourite now. We will have to wait and see who wins in a couple of weeks. I’m glad X Factor has been renewed and it will be good to see if Simon does come back next year after Gary has revealed he’s leaving.
