Hollie Cavanagh gets sympathy from Jennifer Lopez in American Idol’s Austin auditions

Teenage auditionee Hollie Cavanagh almost didn’t make it through her [[American Idol (2011 Series)|American Idol]] audition. The 17-year-old gave a less than stellar rendition of Etta James’ At Last (yawn, by the way) and cried when it looked like the judges were about to reject her.

Steven Tyler gave an honest assessment of Hollie’s performance – he said:

Well, I heard the lyrics. But you were all over the place with the melody.

It was Jennifer Lopez who took pity on the young singer and offered her another chance. Hollie straightens herself up and sings The Climb by Miley Cyrus. Yet another tired cliche song choice, by the way.

Initially, Hollie’s still emotional and it impacts her performance. But midway through she recovers herself and starts belting the track out. My own opinion is that she’s still not ready for Hollywood. And she’s young, she could have come back next year. I don’t think she’ll make it through the next stage of the competition.
