Colombian-born beauty Julie Zorrilla is the name on everyone’s lips today – her audition for [[American Idol (2011 Series)|American Idol 2011]] had the judges raving about her voice and star quality. And to top it all off, it’s her birthday!
After giving us a quick backstory about how her family moved away from the violent guerilla war in Colombia, Julie sang the classic Summertime for the Idol judges. Though Jennifer Lopez seemed to be more interested in Julie’s shoes at one point. Anyway, her vocal is sultry and slightly seductive. And it would seem a certain Aerosmith frontman and notorious womanizer agrees with me. He smiles his widest grin at Julie as she performs – and remarks that “even the bow at the back is slammin'” referring to her dress as she leaves the audition.
Julie Zorrilla will be going through to Hollywood with Steven Tyler’s glowing recommendation ringing in her ears: “One of the best singers we’ve ever heard.”
What the judges said:
Steven Tyler: Fabulous. Beautiful. Great range, and great star quality. (Randy tries to interrupt) Hey! I’m not done! And I liked your shoes.
Jennifer Lopez: I liked it too. I loved the way you were planted in the ground, you know. It says that you have confidence, and that you’re a performer, and that’s exciting to me. A lot of people come in here with good voices, but to know that you have a good performer there is an exciting thing. I liked it a lot.
Randy Jackson: I absolutely loved it, because I haven’t heard that song since Fantasia blew it way out the box on this show that I ever liked it again. Never wanted to hear it. But you made some interesting choices with notes that actually really worked. It was really smart.
