If you missed Melanie C’s low-key single earlier this summer, Rock Me, you’d better start paying attention. Despite starting out as “the manky one in the tracksuits”, the former Spice Girl has enjoyed the most credible solo success out of the fivesome.
Think About It is the second single from Mel’s The Sea album and…well…it’s surprisingly good. It kicks off with a plunky guitar intro before bathing in a wash of electro dance beats. There are similarities with the intro to Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream.
It’s odd, but the initial temptation upon hearing an ex-Spice Girl’s new single is to start chucking rotten tomatoes before the first four bars have finished. Mel C automatically commands respect, and she’s managed to tap in to a contemporary sound without slavishly copying every trend out there (*cough* The Saturdays *cough*).
Described by PopJustice as “four kinds of brilliant”, Think About It is a perfectly crafted pop tune and though it weighs in at slightly more than 4 minutes, it leaves you wanting more. I’ve been listening to it on repeat for the last hour!
As for the video…well, it’s a sensory extravaganza with some excellent atmospheric lighting. I could bitch a little at this point and say that Mel’s bodystocking was a tad unnecessary, but I won’t. I know, I already did. Meh.
An excellent comeback track for Mel, and one that I hope gets the attention (and hopefully) sales it deserves. Think About It is released on 4th September 2011.
