Paramore to release ‘Playing God’ as next single

According to the reliable Radio 1 website, punk pop band Paramore are set to release a fifth single from their album Brand New Eyes – the angry mid-tempo track Playing God on 20th September. The single will follow Careful which has been set for a 12th July release date. It is unknown if the single will be released outside of the UK and Ireland yet.

Five singles is the most the band have released from any of their albums so far so they must have continued faith in the current project. The album has hit the #1 spot in Ireland, UK, Australia and New Zealand while hitting #2 in their native US, Hayley is flying high on the charts having featured on B.o.B’s album and the singles have done moderately well so things are looking good for the band.

Playing God is a fan favourite but it doesn’t sway me really. It’s decent and I’d be more than happy to hear it on the radio but I would have preferred if they had gone with Turn It Off or the optimistic Where The Lines Overlap. But hey! Maybe there’s still time to release those two yet.

Check out the video below and tell me what you think about the choice to have Playing God as the next single?

I would prefer ‘Turn It Off’ as well, Randy, but for me, nothing they’ve done tops ‘Bring By Boring Brick’, it had such a great video too.

‘Careful’ does come close to being my favourite and so I’m thrilled that’s a single.

It’s radio-friendly and effortlessly Paramore, but it doesn’t have an awful lot of bite. And yes, that’s even after I’ve factored in Hayley Williams breaking people’s fingers.

Agreed, I think it’s decent album filler but its a favourite amongst fans. Now the video below is effortlessly Paramore and very very radio friendly. This for sixth single!

I’m not sure it’s a favourite among fans,i mean we like it sure but I personally don’t think it’s one of the best on BNE.”All I wanted” would be my favourite although I don’t think it would do well as a single. There’s been talk of “Turn It Off” released and I think that was one of the weakest songs off the album, after “Misguided Ghosts” which is a haunting song but wouldn’t do well at all if released as a single.

Hey Ophelia! It’s not my favourite either and I’m a big fan of Paramore. I agree with you on All I Wanted – fantastic song but not single material. From most of the forums, chat with Paramore fans etc., I found the general consensus was that Playing God was a favourite with many people. I wasn’t referring to Paramore fan ever obviously lol!

I want Where The Lines Overlap as the next single, it’s short but absolutely brimming with positivity and one of the most catchy radio friendly songs on the record. 🙂
