Coming soon to an America near you: British pop babe Pixie Lott, a 19-year-old whirlwind of music and energy with a goofy smile and a fun, girlie attitude.
To our American readers, here’s what you need to know about Pixie – she’s been a breakout artist in the UK in the last year or so, and has scored some big hit singles. Over here, she released her first single, Mama Do, which is a good song, but in the States she’ll be leading with Boys and Girls.
Boys and Girls quickly became a raucous youth anthem in the UK – with its vibrant chorus and kooky video. For her debut album, Turn It Up, Pixie has collaborated with songwriting geniuses RedOne, American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, Greg Kurstin and Toby Gad. She has also earned three BRIT Award nominations (including Breakthrough Artist) and a Q Award nomination, and won two MTV Europe Music Awards. This summer, Lott has appeared as support on the British leg of Rihanna’s “Last Girl on Earth” Tour.
I like to think of her as a more fun version of Natasha Bedingfield with better tunes.
Coming to a cinema near you, too…
You heard right. Not content with musical fame, our Miss Lott will be appearing with Lucas Cruikshank in Fred: The Movie. Fred, in case you’re a grown-up and don’t know this, is the high-pitched star of a YouTube web series. He’s soooo annoying!
She has also been cast alongside Bette Midler, Adrien Brody, and Sharon Stone in the film Sweet Baby Jesus — a ’70s flashback comedy from writer Steve Blair and directed by Peter Hewitt.
So, America, she’s heading your way. For more on Pixie, visit her official website, and check out the video for Boys and Girls below.
