Merlin - S02E01 - The Curse of Cornelius Sigan
He's back! Oh yes, the long awaited series two of Merlin finially arrived last Saturday. And was it awesome? Yes. Could it have been slightly better? Probably...
Firstly the story this week involved the discovery of a tomb and related treasures in a previously sealed area of the castle. Something spooks the workers as they all run out screaming and one appears to be petrified. The room is locked off and responsibilty for the room is Arthur's.
Later on, in a tavern, shyster Cedric (played by the ever-creepy Mackenzie Crook) hears about the jewels and makes it his mission to obtain them. From here Cedric worms his way into the affections of the royal household and, in particular, into the service of Arthur thus leaving Merlin out in the cold. 'Take a rest, Merlin,' Arthur insists, 'Cedric can handle it'... suffice to say Merlin is not best pleased at being passed over so easily and even getting thrown into the cells for a night. Music Review - 5 Covers: Songs Originally Sung By Men Covered By Women
I like collecting cover versions. I've said before: Remakes = good, copies = bad. To me this applies to films, television and music; all adaptations. They should be the same but different. There's a cover going around at the moment of Paramore covering the Kings of Leon song Use Somebody, embedded below, which The Guardian described as a 'romantic down-to-earth studio performance'.
I suppose that's what I look for in a cover. A distinction. A different angle. Something new that maybe even the original artist didn't see in there. Read more »
Film Review: Show Me Love

Show Me Love (or Fucking Åmål) (director: Lukas Moodysson) is a multi-award winning film and a brilliant example of that coming-of-age teen drama.
We see Agnes (Rebecka Liljeberg), still considered 'new' to the school, a sad, lonely outsider who is hopelessly, desperately in love with Elin (Alexandra Dahlström), the girl whose looks and sass have earned her a place in the popular group, Agnes is barely on her radar. It seems like the only thing the girls have in common is their longing to break free of the small town environment of Åmål, where when something's in trend, it takes so long to get there, that it's out all ready. Best Female Video at MTV's VMAs 2009 - Taylor Swift, Pink, Beyonce and Lady Gaga bring Girl Power to the yard.
I'm pretty sure many people have heard about the Kanye incident at this year's VMAs. Up for the award of Best Female Video were:
- Lady Gaga Poker Face
- Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You
- Beyonce Single Ladies
- Taylor Swift You Belong With Me
- Katy Perry Hot N Cold
- Pink So What
Overall a great cross-section of pop songs and videos. And the winner of the award was Taylor Swift. We talked about Taylor Swift on this site before and I've read a lot of commentary about her on other sites as well. My own opinion of Taylor Swift, as I see her as a person and not relating to her music, is that for someone so young she's achieved a lot and is incredibly talented (she plays the ukelele!), clever and still appears as to be a nice person - she hasn't become a monster of her own success which can often happen with young stars. And, as RandomEnigma pointed out, she's pretty funny. Read more »

Life after Big Brother
So, it's official. Or semi-official anyway. Channel4 won't be renewing the Endemol deal to produce Big Brother after next year's series. And for a while there it seemed like it would never end.
Big Brother has had its up and downs. Its been heartwarming and controversial. But rarely has it been dull. Until now, apparently.
I haven't watched Big Brother for a while now but I think the end of the show is a big deal. Think about it - the actual BB show on Channel4 is on everyday, for at least a hour, for around 13 weeks of the year. And that doesn't include the eviction shows, the shows where something happens and they run over schedule, all those spin-offs (BBLB, BBBM, etc.) as well as the repeats in the morning and on the Sunday.
So what now? Read more »
Doctor Who -The End of Time
Well I began writing a blog on Desperate Romantics and was just on the first paragraph talking about viewing figures and the like but then I switched across to another tab and, you know how it is, closing ones I wasn't using and accidently closed the UnrealityShout tab. Boo. So maybe I'll rewrite something about that later but, for now, there's this;

S05 Companion Named!

So we've all heard that the gorgeous Karen Gillan is going to be the new funny, clever, gorgeous and sexy companion to the new doctor but more details have been announced!
- Her name will be Amy!
- She'll have a Scottish accent!
There are rumours that the chemistry between Amy and Smith!Doctor will even rival of that of Rose and Tennant!Doctor (personally I perferred the chemistry between Rose and Eccleston!Doctor but whatever...).
My favourite thing I've (mis)read about the character so far came from Moffat:
A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too.
Because what I wanted it to say was: "And a generation of little boys will want to be her too."
What qualities would you like to see in the new companion?
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - A reply to Gerard's review
Hello,
I've done this before but I feel like there's so much I want to say about the film and respond to your review that I'm just going to copy and paste bits out and nip in my own addenda. So here goes...
AND BE WARNED IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN OR READ THE SERIES, THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD...
I enjoyed the Potter saga much better at the beginning, when he was a clearly abused boy adopted by his mean Aunt and Uncle and the wizarding world was completely unknown to him.As the story and the characters mature, and the film posters get darker and have any shred of colour drained out of them, the Harry Potter franchise gets duller.
