The Latin beauty we like to refer to as Shakira has given us a video for her new single, Rabiosa (which means raving or raging in Spanish – or ‘berserker’ according to Google). It features an thoroughly unwelcome guest appearance from the dreaded Pitbull – who’s virtually unstoppable given the massive hit that he and Jennifer Lopez had with On The Floor.
So what’s new here? Well, Shakira sporting a shoulder-length brunette hairdo – in complete contrast to the more familiar shaggy blonde locks she wears on the single cover. I’ve got to say though – with the brown hair, she looks a lot more girlish and flirty. She returns to her blonde look later in the video for an ill-advised pole dancing routine. While she mesmerized us in Hips Don’t Lie, a lapdancer Shakira is not!
The song itself is a quirky beast, infused with horns and sexy beats. Shakira’s vocal is full of playfulness and weird little inflections. It’s from Sale El Sol, the same album which launched the sub-par Loca. Personally, I’m not sure about this latest musical direction Shakira’s taken herself in. For me, it was wonderful novelty value, but the tunes aren’t as strong as her previous offerings, as playful and fun as they appear to be.
