It looks like the eighth episode of Modern Family‘s second season is going to be a massive family affair as everybody converges for Manny the Manboy’s birthday. Guest starring Norman Lloyd of St. Elsewhere fame as Donald and Norma Michaels as Helen.
Everyone gathers at a restaurant for Manny’s birthday when Manny has a mini-life crisis of getting older, Phil and Claire have a race to see who can get there faster, and Mitchell and Cam get stuck at the mall looking for a gift.
I read that the show’s producer Steve Levitan inspired the main plot of this episode – he and his wife always argue over the quickest way home when they’re out at a restaurant:
My wife and I have a constant argument about when we’re in a restaurant, which way to take home – which is the faster way home.
Which naturally begs the question – why are they in such a hurry to get home? Possible answers include irritable bowel syndrome, they need to get back to relieve the babysitter and romantic dates make them keen to get home and ‘seal the deal’.
Back to Modern Family – I’m looking forward to seeing Manny worry about getting one year older. There’s something adorable about this manchild and the way he’s far more mature than anybody else around him, even the adults!
I love it when the whole extended family gets together for a big event, so this episode of Modern Family is definitely one to look forward too! The show takes a break next week, so this episode – Dash, Flash, Crash airs on 17th November 2010.
