X Factor Semi Final 5th December 2009: Danyl Johnson 'I Have Nothing'

Danyl Johnson scooped the coveted final performance tonight, proving that Simon Cowell really wants him in next week's final.

Danyl chose the Whitney Houstin classic 'I Have Nothing' for his second song, a big risk when you consider that he didn't exactly nail his last Whitney rendition.

However, luckily for Danyl he pulled it off and tonight has to have been his best night on the X Factor yet.

The weirdest thing about tonight's show was Louis Walsh's gushing remarks to Dan. He went on about the negative attention that Danyl has had and asked people to judge him on his amazing voice. Hold on....didn't most of that negativity come from Louis? Did he get a personality transplant earlier this week?

Louis: I think Danyl that you have everything. You have the talent, you’ve got the vocal ability and I want people to vote for you.

X Factor Semi Final 5th December 2009: Danyl Johnson 'Man In The Mirror'

Danyl Johnson was the last of tonights X factor contestants to sing his Michael Jackson song. Danyl and his mentor Simon Cowell chose the classic track 'Man In The Mirror', which I think was a pretty inspired choice.

Danyl may just make it through to the final on tonight's performance, because that has got to be one of his best in the competition so far. He not only had incredible vocals, but he also had bags full of energy and charisma. Polar bears schmolar bears Louis!

What did you think of Danyl tonight? Leave your comments below.

Louis: [let's talk about the fact that Louis said "this is a singing contest"] Complains that the backdrop was distracting.

Dannii: That was a really good performance. You’re back to what we were when we first saw you. Though I was confused by the Polar Bears as well.

X Factor 28th November 2009: Danyl Johnson - Your Song

Tonight Danyl Johnson took on the Elton classic 'Your Song' but sang it in the style of Moulin Rouge.

He started off with an abruptly harsh intro, then toned it down for a verse. He was joined by a children’s choir for a crescendo. Again technically good but I wasn't feeling it. And when he called Dannii babe she looked like she was about to smack him. Insincere over familiarity is obviously not the way to go Danyl.

Louis: What I like about you is that you always bounce back. You picked Elton’s most iconic song, you made it your own. I loved everything about it, except the choir. You don’t need the choir – with your looks and your voice, you’ve got it all.

Dannii: A really great version of a great song. Much, much better than your first song.

X Factor 28th November 2009: Danyl Johnson - Relight My Fire

Finally! Danyl Johnson got to perform an up tempo song, Take That's Relight My Fire. The pressure for him to show us his legendary dancing skills was huge.

Egad! The vocal inflections are annoying at the start, but once we get past the intro, it gets better. He handles the stage performance brilliantly, the kind of thing he should’ve been doing from the start. Technically Danyl sang well and his dancing was amazing, however something falied to connect for me. I can't put my finger on it but something was missing.

I think that Danyl did well considering how much he had going on up there, however the focus on the dancing took something away from the singing for me.

Louis: What a great start to the show. I’m glad you’ve got your mojo back. I think you’re really talented and in Round 1 you won.

X Factor Queen Week: Danyl Johnson - We Are The Champions

Danyl Johnson landed the coveted final spot on tonight's X Factor and normally they save that for a whopping performance, able to capitalise on being the last person to sing before the voting lines open.

I liked the fact that he didn't overdo the performance and he seemed to have a bit of a laugh at himself during the “bad mistakes” part of the lyrics. A few vocal annoyances aside, he was the first one to give a truly ‘rock’ performance, and I have to credit him with that. Also, they didn't overuse the gospel choir to the point that Danyl was drowned out. I think that after that, Danyl will live to sing another week.

Judges Comments:

Dannii Minogue: I absolutely think was your best performance in the live shows.

X Factor Rock Week: Danyl Johnson 'I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing'

Danyl Johnson looked soooo upset during his VT. More hated than Hitler? Surely not. However the whole episode did leave me feeling a bit manipulated.

So he starts to sing....is that actually singing? Because for the first verse Danyl is off key, out of tune and he knows it. How very painful to watch.

I actually hope that he wins enough sympathy votes to get through to next week because my heart really goes out to Dan tonight.

Dannii: We know how you’re feeling. It was sad to see you like you’ve lost your mojo. You hit your stride at the end of the song, but it was out of tune at the beginning.

X Factor week 3: Danyl Johnson – Feeling Good

Michael Buble said that Danyl Johnson could bring goosebumps with his song tonight and Simon Cowell seemed excited by the prospect. Thankfully for his celebrity supoorters, Danyl did deliver.

He looked at home once more on the X Factor stage and gone were the uncertainty and nerves of previous weeks. If anyone found a flaw in his perforance then leave a comment below, because I couldn't spot a one.

X Factor: Danyl Johnson sings ' I Didn't Know My Own Strength'

Why, oh why did Simon pick this unknown song for Danyl Johnson? Very often unknown songs are unknown for good reason. They are normally crap.

It was hard to tell if this song is actually crap, or if Danyl just sang it badly. Either way, his performance was not good enough for the X Factor and he really needs to bring it back if he wants to survive to the finals of the show.

Surprisingly, or not so surprisingly, all the judges loved Danyl's performance tonight. That, or they were told to be extra nice to him after last week's outing debacle!

Judges Comments

Dannii – Your first audition, we were like oh my god has he peaked, I have to say that was flawless.

Cheryl – Talk about challenge, to sing a song that isn’t known – you were great.

Simon – Once again an incredible performance, the lyrics said it all, I didn’t crumble, I didn’t know my own strength.
