X Factor: The Pros and Cons of Jedward

John and Edward Grimes

I recently ran a post on Unreality TV discussing the pros and cons of Danyl Johnson. It's a fantastic discussion point, so I thought I'd do the same thing on Unreality Shout for John and Edward Grimes (aka Jedward).

As we all know, Jedward are perhaps the most controversial act on this year's X Factor. They've faced the accusation that they can't sing, but they've been lauded for their ability to entertain an audience with their energetic stage routines. So, with all that in mind, let's look at their good and bad points and try to decide whether they deserve to win X Factor this year...

X Factor Queen Week: John and Edward Grimes - Under Pressure / Ice Ice Baby....& someone moons!

Gosh John and Edward Grimes truly were 'Under Pressure' tonight. After being in the bottom two and putting Lucie Jones out last week they had A LOT to prove.

Alright stop, collaborate and listen – I’m struggling with this, but they’re actually decent. In fact, I prefer their rapping this week. The one problem they have is that they couldn’t quite be heard over the backing track. Louis looked like he’s about to wet himself. Whoa – and some random dude from the audience mooned in the middle of their performance – classic Jarvis Cocker moment! That was even funnier than the Grimes twins trying to rap!!!!

Judges Comments

Dannii Minogue: Where do I begin? Let me ask you Louis – where does Ice Ice Baby fit in with Queen week? I’m sorry, even some of that rapping was out of time.

X Factor Rock Week: John and Edward Grimes sing We Will Rock You

There’s no avoiding this bit. There’s no denying that John and Edward Grimes are a walking disaster. But we’re beyond trying to get people to see sense. The boys are singing 5ive’s version of Queen’s We Will Rock You, well I say singing.....but I use that term very loosely. If Louis can keep them to football-chant quality songs, they’ll persevere. And it’s obvious that they haven’t a clue about the lyrics to the song. However, all the shiny stage props and backing dancers will make people forget how bad they are!

X Factor week 3: John and Edward Grimes: ‘She Bangs’

Simon Cowell promised that if John and Edward Grimes win X Factor he would leave the country. After tonight's performance I don't think we need to worry too much.

After last week's, definitely not awful and even amusing performance, I had almost forgiven the slime twins for being on X Factor. This week they reverted to their awful, cringeworthy and untalented state.

Not only can these boys not sing, they can't dance either. The judges obviously received a pre-show memo saying that only Simon could criticise them, because there is no way that Cheryl and Dannii could actually like these two.

X factor: John and Edward Grimes sing 'Oops I Did It Again'

It says a lot when the worst singers of the night weren’t the worst act. The more I see John and Edward Grimes, the more I am sure that they will survive for at least another few weeks on the X Factor.

I am not saying I want them to, or that I would vote for them, but they are amusing and after all the 'scandals' people do crave a little bit of fun.

Tonight they took on a Britney Spears song and I wouldn't say that they mastered it but neither did they murder it. Dare I say it? I think J&E may have actually improved.

Most cringe worthy thing about the performance? The Titanic moment for sure. However the pvc red jackets come a very close second. These guys can’t sing, and if they were any other act than Louis’, he’d say they have the cringe factor.

X Factor results show: John and Edward Grimes get through!

It's blooming sods law. John and Edward Grimes, the awful twins, they can't sing, are incredibly annoying and yet they make it through week one of the X Factor.

As things stand now both Rachel Adedeji and Kandy Rain sit in the bottom two, fighting for a place in next week's lineup. Kandy Rain and Rachel Adedeji both have a quality that J&E lack......talent!!

We haven't even got the luxury of being able to blame Louis Walsh for this one. He's not here tonight and he couldn't vote for the the little twits. No, we have the great British public to thank for this travesty! And it was the British people, because the Irish can't actually vote.

X Factor: John and Edward Grimes Sing 'Rock DJ'

These guys truly are the pinnacle of awfulness. The only point that they sounded ok was when the backing track took over and the backing singers sang along. The rap bit in the verse was woeful, though I have to admit their dancing wasn't half bad.

Cheryl Cole told them they can't sing but praised them for trying. She inadvertently blamed Louis for putting them in the final 12. Simon said they are amazingly thick skinned but called the whole thing a musical nightmare.

I think I'm going to love to hate John and Edward.

Dannii – You guys have got the whole country talking, and I just want to say something, the girls told me you are really sweet except when you steal their food. It was a great performance not best vocal but good performance and I loved the way you entered

John and Edward Grimes would 'spit on their mother's head'

Tonight's X Factor bootcamp seemed to be going quite well until John and Edward Grimes came onto the stage.

The boys are the bookies favourites for being the tossers of the competition and make me feel dirty to be Irish! Louis Walsh looked ridiculously excited when they walked onto the stage.

It wasn't long before they drew the irritation of the audience (and Simon Cowell) when they sang over the top of Sian leaving her with virtually no solo vocals.

Louis (always in favour of the Irish acts) talked Simon into putting them through. Although he agreed, Simon brilliantly called them “vile little creatures who’d spit on their mother’s heads”. The nation nodded sagely in agreement.
