Little Boots

Little Boots - New In Town - Single Review

New In Town is my first real introduction to the music of Little Boots. Funny thing is, I like to think of it as the companion piece to Lady GaGa's Just Dance, because New In Town is about the promise of a good night out, while GaGa's song is a good night in full swing!

From the swells of strings at the beginning of the song to the righteous hook of the chorus, this song is brilliant. I think it'll be one of those tunes that defines 2009 when we start looking back at the end of the year!

And believe me, I want to hate it - mostly because the pop scene is flooded with young ladies and electronic/synth stylings: La Roux, Pixie Lott, Little Boots, etc. I'm finding it hard to keep up, and it's hard to know which of these new wave of singers will survive the year.

This is without prejudice to Victoria (aka Little Boots), because I genuinely love what she's doing, but there's this continuing trend of having an army of pop clones pumping out similar music. The last few years it was Amy Winehouse clones, and we're currently seeing a lot of synth type music coming out. The message I'm clumsily trying to convey is that Little Boots needs to differentiate herself to stand out from the pack.

Little Boots corrects the tabloid press via Twitter

Little Boots

Up and coming British pop artiste, Little Boots has corrected a claim in The Sun newspaper that she slammed Leona Lewis for having no personality. The newspaper ran a story in which she supposedly said:

Surely having ‘The X Factor’ is somebody with amazing talent and personality. You look at Leona Lewis and she’s got an incredible voice but I don’t see anything else.

Everyone on that show goes crazy when someone manages to hit a high note. It’s so one-dimensional.

And, like any modern celebrity worth her salt, she set the story straight via Twitter, tweeting the following statement:

would like to point out i did NOT say anything mean about leona! bleeding love is a CHOOOON!!
