Bret Michaels and Miley Cyrus release Nothing To Lose
This mutual admiration society (of the strictly musical kind) between Bret Michaels and Miley Cyrus continues apace. Since Miley recorded a cover version of Poison's Every Rose Has Its Thorn, the two have complimented each other in the press and it's no surprise that a second collaboration between the two singers is coming out.
I'm sure Michaels knows what he's doing - coming from the forefront of 80's/90's pop metal, he's probably well used to criticism from the metal masses. So, if we can avoid universal condemnation for a collab with Hannah Montana, let's judge the song on its own merit, OK?
Nothing To Lose taps into a vein of soft country-rock that Michaels in particular excels at. Big, rich harmonies with Miley are prevalent, as are lingering power chords underneath an array of acoutic playing. No moulds were broken during the making of this song, but since when has that mattered? It's still nice to hear Bret's voice on some new material - I was a massive Poison fan until I lost touch with them around the Native Tongue period.
And in case anyone's concerned with the grizzled, 40-something shagger singing a duet with the Disney princess, he has this to say:
Miley Cyrus says 'The Last Song' role was 'breakout moment'
Miley Cyrus has revealed she loved playing a more edgy charcater in her new movie The Last Song.
"It's been really great," she told MTV News. "It's been a really good experience because it's kind of my breakout moment in a way. This is more of an edgy role."
She continued: "I think it's really important to look for roles that are challenging. But also something that you relate to and something that really captures your heart."
Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) organises Haiti auction
Teen actress Miley Cyrus has organised an auction to raise money for victims of the recent Haiti earthquake.
On her new eBay page, Cyrus is selling the Herve Leger dress she wore to the Grammy Awards and two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her new film The Last Song.
Demi Lovato, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Richie and Britney Spears, have also donated items to be auctioned.
"Ever since the earthquake, I've been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti, and I wanted to do more," Cyrus told People. "Everyone has been so generous. My mum and I started calling and texting all of our friends to see if they'd like to be part of the auction.
"Demi was one of the first to respond. Hugh Jackman was also excited to donate something. I texted Nicole and right away she sent over some amazing jewellery and Joel [Madden] sent some of his clothes."
Cyrus added: "I want to get people involved and show that even the little things you can do can make a difference."
Miley Cyrus - Party In The USA - Single review
Miley Cyrus has just released a new single Party In The USA, an unashamed bubblegum pop anthem that is as infectious as swine flu, but apparently not quite as dangerous.
This time last year, you'd have been forgiven for believing that Miley was trying to leave behind the cutesy Disney universe for pastures a little more grown up. To be honest, there's little in this track that we haven't seen from Miley in the past - the celeb obsession of moving to Hollywood has echoes of Fly On The Wall, but she (and her songwriters) deserve full marks for a fun, hook-laden tune that just begs to be sung out loud.
The video's an all-American dream - drive-in movies, gyrating in front of an enormous US flag. Brilliant stuff. Beats me why it took so many months to get a release in the UK when it was released in the USA in the summer.
Well, it is a party in the USA...
