Andrew Lee-Potts talks Primeval season four
Andrew Lee-Potts – who of course plays Connor Temple on the show – has been talking about Primeval season four, which airs on ITV next year. It’s currently being filmed in Ireland.
Speaking to Chicago Now, Andrew said, "[A] lot of things happened in the last series; I.E. losing our lead character.
“You've got to be a bit clever to survive in Primeval because they like killing people off quite a lot.
“But that's their way of keeping it really super fresh, and you actually never know. And nobody's really safe."
Andrew also took time to praise Douglas Henshall who played the role of Nick Cutter.
He said, "People might not realise how much Dougie, I think, anchored the entire show, because it was his belief in it, his belief in coming from the serious actor side, and the professor side of the storyline.
“I think that made the show somewhat plausible in the ridiculousness of the Primeval world. I really respected that.
"I suppose, in a way, I am the character to carry that on now, so there are definitely going to be more nods toward Connor becoming more like Cutter."
Guess we’ll see if he does next year!
What will you miss most about Primeval?
Aw, man! ITV have announced that they're cancelling Primeval, so it won't be returning for a fourth series. This is an utter disaster.
I've been watching Primeval alongside the BBC's Robin Hood since both began their third series - and Primeval has been wiping the floor with the pansy outlaw and his Emo adversary. OK, I get that Primeval eats up the special effects budget, but it's really worth it, and with a little intelligence they could have marketed it overseas too. Damnit.
Having skipped the first two series of the show, I found myself as a Primeval newbie in series 3. After the first few episodes of the series, they killed off Cutter and got rid of Claudia Brown (or whatever she was called). In came Sarah Page and Danny Quinn. Quinn especially was an unlikely action hero, looking very unconventional but behaving in a brilliantly gung-ho manner. I had high hopes for him, but he's now stuck in the past with a bunch of hairy half-humans, stranded by ITV's decision to cull the show.
How long before he decides to mate with them, thereby irreversably fucking up the fossil records forever?
Primeval S03E03 - A reply to Gerard's review
I was replying to Gerard's review of this episode and realised my comment was ridiculously long so I've made it into a blog post instead. Basically I picked out quotes of his (in italics) and added my own commentary.
The third episode of Primeval pushed all the right buttons and came out better than the Time Lord and medieval do-gooder.
I think this had more to do with the fact iPlayer is good and CatchUp is crap more than anything. Plus Doctor Who was repeated on terrestrial whereas Primeval is only repeated on itv2 (and i refuse to accept that the majority of people probably do have itv2 and it's just me in the dark ages).
A mini-invasion of Diictodons...
SO CUTE. OMFG. SO CUTE. I WANT ONE. I can't wait to see how Rex reacts when they get home and also can't wait for the plushes to come out.
Helen Cutter's nefarious scheme is revealed - she's creating voice controlled suicide-bomber clones
Primeval - S03E03 - Nick Cutter dies!
Holy crap! What an episode! On a Saturday night that saw ITV (poor track record in Sci-Fi drama) going up against the BBC's Doctor Who and Robin Hood, my guess would have been that the Beeb would have creamed ITV. But wow, the third episode of Primeval pushed all the right buttons and came out better than the Time Lord and medieval do-gooder.
In a nutshell
- A mini-invasion of Diictodons in a hospital sees Cutter and his team having to round up the creatures and deliver a baby. All in a day's work!
- Helen Cutter's nefarious scheme is revealed - she's creating voice controlled suicide-bomber clones, and tells Cutter that creatures from The Arc will eventually end all life on the planet and that she has witnessed this.
- Helen takes over the Arc and her clone of Cutter blows the place up. The team escape to safety, but Cutter goes back inside to rescue Helen, but she shoots him thinking that this will prevent the future incident she thinks he will cause. Before he dies, Cutter passes on the artefact that Helen left behind. He gives it to Connor and tells him to work out what it does.
Primeval S03E02 - Monster of the Week: LOLCATS
Okay, well they looked liked LOLCATs and people on the twitterfest kept making lolcat jokes so I can only assume I wasn't the only one to see it.
I think overall it was a lot better than last week's episode by being action-y and adding in relationship bits (a.k.a. Abby and Jenny have girl talk, Abby kisses Connor on the cheek after he tries to rescue her again).
The story of having a 'haunted' house was quite novel though we never really found out what the lolcats really were. The dialogue was great as well - it had it's fair share of humour.
There was the sexiest anomoly special effect we've seen to date which was shot quite close to the anomoly and then a 360 pan. Really lovely.
It did seem, however, they'd split the cast so that they could film two episodes at the same time and as a result we only really saw Abby, Connor, Jenny and new guy Danny Quinn. We did see the others (bar Rex) albeit briefly.
We saw Becker (i.e. Not!Arthur) and he was quite quiet because he's rubbish and clearly only there as a totty replacement for Steven when actually the other new guy (Danny Quinn played by Jason Flemyng) is a lot sexier and seems to have some UST building up with Jenny (and we haven't even seen him with Cutter yet!).
Primeval S03E01 - Thoughts and Musings, Musings and Thoughts, Squealings of a Fangirl
I have been looking forward to Primeval series 3 since the end of series 2. When my brother asked me 'Doctor Who or Primeval?' it was a huge dilemma for me. Could I pick the Doctor over Nick Cutter? Would I rather experience time and relative dimensions or go hopping through anomolies?
And this year I've been keeping all my Saturdays free in the hope that the first ep would be aired - only to find that it was to be shown on the one date I was out for something I couldn't miss, wouldn't be getting an ITV1 repeat (I don't have ITV2) and hate with a passion ITV Catchup/Silverlight. But anyway, as soon as I got home (at about 11-something) I went onto ITV Catchup to watch immediately and, guess what, it wasn't up yet.
YOU NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ON iPLAYER.
So I watched something on iPlayer (Being Human Unearthed) and then went to sleep. When I woke up today the first thing I did was go online to see if it was there (it was), install Silverlight (argh) and watch it.
Here are some of my thoughts on the first episode.

Primeval – S03E01 – Series premiere, episode review

OK, first up, I have watched Primeval in the past and found it to be a loathsome, awful show. One of those utterly wasted television opportunities that should have pointed to how bad Demons was going to be. I say this because I've already given Robin Hood a second chance tonight, so I'm giving Primeval a clean slate tonight, too. Now, ITV, impress me...
Plot summary: An anomaly attached to an Egyptian statue in the British Museum becomes active and a dinosaur that looks like an old Egyptian god escapes and goes on the rampage in London. Weekend city breaks for dinosaurs, anyone?
I'm not going to go into the episode in detail. Firstly, shallow as this will sound, the Nicole Scherzinger lookalike (and new team member) Sarah Page was intelligent eye candy and much appreciated. By the end of the episode, she'd become quite an interesting character, and is tied to the rest of the series due to Cutter's epiphany that strange natural phenomenon like the Yeti might be explained by anomalies.
