Single Reviews Round-Up: 28 August 2009
A little bit later than expected, I'm here with the second round-up of singles being released this week. That's 28 August 2009 for Ireland and 31 August 2009 for the UK. So might as well start now...
Asher Roth featuring Keri Hilson: 'She Don't Wanna Man'
I do like Asher Roth. Sure his cheeky and often vulgar rapping isn't for everyone but at least he's a bit more inventive than your average rapper who sings about "shawties shaking their ass in the club all day while I throw money at them". Sadly enough for the guy, his previous two singles haven't really hit the mainstream radar. This might change now that he's collaborated with the gorgeous Keri Hilson to bring this clubby number. Thankfully, this tune has a more old school feel, something I really appreciate at the moment. I mean I'm really getting tired of Europop samples and R&B singers singing over booming house beats. Auto-Tune does manage to coat Hilson's vocals on the song alright but it doesn't spoil the song. This is a song that deserves some recognition. 4/5
Billy Talent: 'Devil On My Shoulder'
Upcoming Single Releases...reviews should come soon!!!
Hey guys! I've had a sudden urge to start writing again and thought I'd bring you some of the singles being released in the next few weeks. You can see them all below. And I will be reviewing everyone of them. Yeah, that's right! You might ask how I will have time to write all these reviews? Well, instead of writing a review for each individual single, every week I will do a round up of all the singles being released during the week. This allows me to cover more singles and my thoughts and opinions on them. But more importantly, I get to here feedback from you guys. Except reviews for singles being released 21st August 2009 tomorrow. Bye!
21st August 2009:
Biffy Clyro: 'That Golden Rule'
Erik Hassle: 'Don't Bring Flowers (After I'm Dead)'
Flo Rida featuring Nelly Furtado: 'Jump'
Ian Carey Project: 'Get Shaky'
Jet: 'She's A Genius'
Lily Allen: '22'
Noah And The Whale: 'Blue Skies'
T.I. featuring Mary J. Blige: 'Remember Me'
Random Enigma: Upcoming Single Reviews-May 2009
- Okay, here is a list of single reviews for May 2009 which should be written by me in the near future.
Top 50 Singles In Ireland: 3 April 2009
Okay just thought I'd give Irish viewers a round up of my opinions on the Top 50 Singles Chart in Ireland as of 3 April 2009. This is basically a rehash of last weeks charts but with any new entries added in afterwards.
50. Stuck With Each Other-Shontelle featuring Akon: A new entry into the Top 50, this is the second mid-tempo R&B single to be released by Shontelle. Soundtracking the Confessions Of A Shopaholic movie, this song drafts in Akon who just seems to be appearing everywhere these days like Timbaland was last year. Well this song is just as accessible, if not more so than previous hit T-Shirt, this is warm and comforting. Perfect for a rom-com really and Akon fits nicely in this track, ditching his signature nasal, Auto-Tune sound for some actual smooth vocals for once. Good but won't set the World alight. (3/5)
Top 50 Singles In Ireland: 27 March 2009
Okay just thought I'd give Irish viewers a round up of my opinions on the Top 50 Singles Chart in Ireland as of 27 March 2009. This is basically a rehash of last weeks charts but with any new entries added in afterwards.
50. Welcome To The Club-DJ Manian: I'm sorry to report this renewed Eurodance craze isn't going to go away soon. However that said, Welcome To The Club isn't completely awful, it's good for getting up and dancing to which I suppose is it's purpose really. Being one third of hit trio Cascada (yes, they're a trio!), Manian creates a rather infectious dance tune but if it's going to be played on the radio non-stop and no doubt it will, we're all going to get annoyed by it's repetitive nature. It will be a welcome change from Basshunter though. ***
Top 50 Singles In Ireland: 20 March 2009
Okay just thought I'd give Irish viewers a round up of my opinions on the Top 50 Singles Chart in Ireland as of 20 March 2009.
50. Breakeven-The Script: Okay, clocking in at number 50, we have The Script with Breakeven. Nice ballad we have here with some smooth vocals from Danny O' Donohue as usual. You can actually hear the emotional anguish in Danny's voice when he sings and I think it's one of their best singles yet. ****
49. Thinking Of You-Katy Perry: To be honest, I thought this song would do much better but it has so far only peaked at 38 and will probably fall of the chart within the next week. It's a shame cos Ms. Perry actually shows she has talent under all the attention seeking garb. She wrote this song by herself and has this longing emotion running through it. Many people have commented that she sounds like a strangled cat in this song but I disagree, I think her voice is very rich and distinctive. ****
