Take That have now released the full version of their video for new single The Flood. And in case you’ve missed the news, it’s their first post-reunion video to feature black sheep of the band Robbie Williams.
It’s funny, everything about this video plays to the reunion – from the reveal of the boy’s faces as they walk out of a boat shed. You get a brief glimpse of Robbie’s unmistakeable wing-nut ears from behind, then his face emerges from the shadows. Even I got a tingle of anticipation from that one!
Dressed in redemptive white, and matching all the other boys, Robbie’s been cleansed of his solo artist ways and is back in the Take That matching costumes dress code. Even the idea of the boys competing in a rowing race adds to the metaphor: look, we’re like a well-oiled machine (and that’s not a reference to Robbie’s hair).
Elsewhere, it’s clear that there’s a new edict from the TT publicity machine. Robbie must be seated beside Gary at every opportunity. What 15 year silence? There was no silence *insert Jedi mind trick* So we see Gary patting him reassuringly on the back, and even poor wizened monkey Mark gets a squeeze on the shoulder. Probably because he hadn’t had sex that day. Be strong NymphomaniMark, you’ll get through it.
Hope you enjoyed the video. We’ll have a single review up here on Shout over the weekend, so stay tuned for that!
