How should we deal with spoilers?
I thought I'd start this forum thread in response to a couple of comments we've received about spoilers on various blog posts.
My take on spoilers is that people looking for reviews on the web generally have a fair idea what they're dealing with. Difficult to review a movie or book without revealing something of the plot.
However, I agree that we can add a spoiler warning to reviews that potentially contain spoilers. I've been doing this myself with the odd post.
One thing I don't agree with is in the titling of posts. Believe it or not, some of our most commented and popular threads are ones that I've written while watching TV: Ianto Jones dead, and when Danielle in EastEnders died. These were written on the spur of the moment and caught the attention of shocked fans who wanted to go online and vent.
My take is that if it aried on TV, then people have seen it. The plot is in the public domain. We can talk about it out loud. Do we provide a platform for 'those in the know' to talk about it, or do we title things so obscurely that no-one else gets to read it?
