True Blood Season 2 Soundtrack details revealed!

Fans of cult television series True Blood will be happy to hear that the second season box-set of the phenomenal fantasy series will be released on 25th May, less than two weeks after the Season 2 finale wraps up on FX next week. Accompanying the release of the boxset, comes True Blood: Music From The HBO Original Series – Volume 2, a 14 track compilation from Season 2’s 12 episode soundtrack.

With about 10 songs played per episode in the series, I think that 14 tracks is a bit minimal for the show’s eclectic taste in music but what can you do. I was hoping for Marcy Playground’s Sex And Candy or Stephen Moyer’s version of Hard Hearted Hannah but there are some great songs on the soundtrack such as King Britt and Sister Gertrude’s New World In My View, Beck’s Timebomb and Bob Dylan’s Beyond Here Lies Nothin’.

The soundtrack can be viewed below.

  1. M. Ward: Howlin’ For My Baby
  2. Jace Everett and C.C. Adcock: Evil (Is Going On)
  3. Beck: Timebomb
  4. Robbie Robertson: How To Become Clairvoyant
  5. Junior Walker & The All Stars: Shake And Fingerpop
  6. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins: Frenzy
  7. Lucinda Williams and Elvis Costello: Kiss Like Your Kiss
  8. Buddy & Julie Mayer: Gasoline And Matches
  9. Chuck Prophet: You Did (Bomp Shooby Dooby Bomp)
  10. 13th Floor Elevators: You’re Gonna Miss Me
  11. Eels: Fresh Blood
  12. Thievery Corporation: The Forgotten People
  13. Sister Gertrude and King Britt: New World In My View
  14. Bob Dylan: Beyond Here Lies Nothin’
What are your thoughts on the True Blood Volume 2 soundtrack? Will you buy it or just download the songs as they can already be found on iTunes?

I did not know that! Funny, I adore the theme tune to True Blood, such a fantastic piece of music. When you came in, the air went out. Brilliant lyric, totally sets the scene for the show, I think.

Just for everybody else reading this: go check out Jace Everett on MySpace, listen to a few of his tunes.

You’re right though, RandomEnigma. There should definitely be a bit more music in there, enough for a two-disc set at least. I often forget how important the music is to making you feel like you’re right there in deepest darkest Bon Temps.

If you go back and watch one of the episodes of Season 2 of True Blood (I think it’s Episode 6 – “Hard Hearted Hannah”), Stephen can be heard singing the song in the flashback where Bill and Lorena seduce this couple, kill them and have sex on the bloodstained bed where they killed them. As you do.

Yep, every episode of True Blood is named after a song. Bad Things by Jace Everett is such a brilliant song – in an ideal World, it would be a country classic.
