True Blood’s season 3 premiere ratings are in!

They’ll be celebrating in Bon Temps tonight, with the news that the first episode of [[True Blood (TV Series)|True Blood]]’s third season took in a record number of viewers.

The season kicked off on Sunday 13th June with the episode titled Bad Blood, which saw the residents of the Louisiana town picking up from the aftermath of the second season. The episode was watched by 5.1 million viewers, but the figure rose to 6.4 million when the viewers of the encore broadcast were factored in.

The high viewing figures were attributed to a wide-reaching advertising campaign which included a series of teaser webisodes designed to lead in to the events of the new season. The viewing figures for Bad Blood are up 38% on the second season premiere and 19% on the season average for last year.

Hopefully this bodes well for the series. I’m sure fans of the show will be glad to hear that the audience is growing instead of dwindling. And it’s a glowing recommendation for the heady mix of sex, intrigue and supernatural creatures that True Blood brings to TV.

Great to hear! Although I’m not surprised with all the never-ending marketing they did about the show, two months before it was due to start. Here’s to many more seasons of True Blood.
