The Twilight juggernaut keeps on rolling. According to the latest box office figures, the latest instalment in the angsty teenage vampire saga took $30 million in midnight screenings across the USA.
That’s almost $4 million higher than the previous Twilight movie, New Moon. It shows, perhaps to the chagrin of those of us who prefer more grown-up vampire drama, that Twilight seems to be gaining steam. Looks like I’d better go out and read Breaking Dawn before the movie for that one comes out as well!
The movie website Screen Rant says this is clearly the best movie in the series so far, and takes a look at reviews for Eclipse in general:
According to ScreenRant’s own Vic Holtreman, Eclipse is the best film in the series so far (though it didn’t have a lot to live up to). A quick look at RottenTomatoes reveals that Eclipse is holding steady at a 50% fresh rating, which is a vast improvement over New Moon‘s 27% rating. If the improved reviews hold, there is a chance that Eclipse could attract a fresh audience of moviegoers in addition to the Twilight faithful that are already planning to see the film.
I must say that having literally fallen asleep during New Moon I’m heartened that Eclipse seems to be a more solid movie.
And since Twilight’s going to be everywhere over the next few months, I might try and get to an early showing to see what all the fuss is about. Eclipse is based on the third novel in the series by Stephenie Meyer. It’s the one where an increase in vampire activity in Seattle is brought about by an old nemesis building an army to attack the Cullens with, while Bella continues to be torn between Jacob and Edward.
If any readers of Shout have seen it already, feel free to jump on and review the movie here – tell us if it’s worth going to see or not!
