If you thought that movie adaptations of Stephanie Meyer books would end with Breaking Dawn, then your naievity knows no bounds. Not when there’s a Bree Tanner book out there begging to be made into a film.
For those of you who don’t know – Twihards, please bear with me here – The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner was a spin-off book by Meyer that focused on a minor character from Elcipse. The novella was released earlier this year.
Summit Entertainment are said to be eyeing the book for a possible screen adaptation. They’re currently working on making the final book in the Twlight saga, Breaking Dawn into a two-parter in the same way that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has been dragged out into two parts. I don’t know what your thoughts are on these two-part finales, folks – are the studios trying to milk every last drop from their favourite cash cows? I can see justification for a two-part Potter finale, but not so much for Breaking Dawn.
At this point, the news is at ‘strong rumour’ stage, but with the popularity of Twlight, it’s highly likely that it’ll get made. I have to wonder if The Host is up for consideration as well. Anyone read that book?
In the film version of Eclipse, Tanner was played by Jodelle Ferland, though there’s much speculation that another actress may take the role in an adaptation of the Bree Tanner novella. Screen Rant notes that Kick-Ass actress Chloe Mortez and Elle Fanning (sister of Dakota) are possible choices to play Tanner.
I can’t help but wonder if Stephanie Meyer will be under more pressure to produce more books featuring characters from the Twlight universe. One possibility would be a future conflict with the Volturi, or something focusing on the lives of Jacob and the ridiculously named Reneesme.
