Twilight spin-off Bree Tanner movie being considered?

If you thought that movie adaptations of Stephanie Meyer books would end with Breaking Dawn, then your naievity knows no bounds. Not when there’s a Bree Tanner book out there begging to be made into a film.

For those of you who don’t know – Twihards, please bear with me here – The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner was a spin-off book by Meyer that focused on a minor character from Elcipse. The novella was released earlier this year.

Summit Entertainment are said to be eyeing the book for a possible screen adaptation. They’re currently working on making the final book in the Twlight saga, Breaking Dawn into a two-parter in the same way that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has been dragged out into two parts. I don’t know what your thoughts are on these two-part finales, folks – are the studios trying to milk every last drop from their favourite cash cows? I can see justification for a two-part Potter finale, but not so much for Breaking Dawn.

At this point, the news is at ‘strong rumour’ stage, but with the popularity of Twlight, it’s highly likely that it’ll get made. I have to wonder if The Host is up for consideration as well. Anyone read that book?

In the film version of Eclipse, Tanner was played by Jodelle Ferland, though there’s much speculation that another actress may take the role in an adaptation of the Bree Tanner novella. Screen Rant notes that Kick-Ass actress Chloe Mortez and Elle Fanning (sister of Dakota) are possible choices to play Tanner.

I can’t help but wonder if Stephanie Meyer will be under more pressure to produce more books featuring characters from the Twlight universe. One possibility would be a future conflict with the Volturi, or something focusing on the lives of Jacob and the ridiculously named Reneesme.

I can’t see Bree’s story as a full length movie. Yeah, the Voluturi’s involved and the friendships she makes after joining the coven, all the conflict within the coven, etc. Idk…I guess thinking about it more, I guess it could.
As for changing the person playing Bree, that would be a big no-no in the Twihard world. If at all possible, most don’t like to see the characters change. I think the young lady previously cast may be ok for the part, she had limited lines in “Eclipse” but she did fairly well with what she had. I haven’t heard anything until now about this possible adaptation. Interesting.

I have read “The Host”, it was actually very good. I have also heard (although not recently) that it was also being considered for movie status. I believe I read that on SM’s official website.
The book is really hard to understand at first, but once you get into it and begin to understand “The Host” and its purpose its hard to put down. Interesting concept.

I can’t see why they would need to change the actress, after all Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson weren’t replaced for their inability to act. Elle Fanning is actually a pretty good actress, so it would be interesting to see what a good actress could do with a Twilight role. Maybe there would be less of the ridiculous “Act like you’re a mannequin” poses that make me think of the Modelquins from Old Navy commercials. I mean, I know they’re supposed to be undead, but an actual mannequin could do a better job.

Or, maybe the cast could take some acting lessons from Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Michael Trevino to bring some afterlife to their roles. And, maybe Meyer could take some lessons from Anne rice or L J Smith on Vampire mythology and how to write characters that don’t need to think about the themes of the book every three paragraphs to get their point across.
