Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell is the latest name to be raised in connection with the second season of Spartacus: Blood And Sand.
As you all know, the original star of the show, Andy Whitfield, had to pull out when his cancer returned. While this initially threw the continuation of Spartacus into doubt, Chris Albrecht has confirmed that season two has been green-lit and the search for an actor to “fill Spartacus’ sandals” has commenced.
Starz have reportedly received a screen test for the role from Purcell, who played Lincoln Burrows on Prison Break. Hilariously, his former co-star Wentworth Miller is also interested in the role. I say send the both of them out into the Ludus yard and let them fight to the death. Last one standing gets the role! Doctore will make sure that it’s a fair fight.
However, other sources suggest that Australian actor Liam McIntyre may be a strong contender for the role also. EW have also suggested McIntyre as far back as November alongside Stephen Amell and Aiden Turner.
According to TVLine though, McIntyre’s build isn’t quite gladiatorial enough for Spartacus just yet and he’s working on bulking up for the role.
And if that’s not enough, the prequel, Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena kicks off next week. It’s a six-parter, so we won’t be too spoiled with gut-spilling goodness, but it’ll fill the gap until next year!
Over to you now – who would you like to see cast as Spartacus? Is there anybody whose name hasn’t been mentioned who’d be good for the role?
