Amy Pond
Amy Pond is a companion of The Doctor in Doctor Who. She was introduced in the fifth series, and is played by Scottish actress, Karen Gillan. Amy's first appearance in the series was in the episode "The Eleventh Hour", when she meets the eleventh Doctor after his most recent regeneration.
Character Biography
Known as Amelia Pond when The Doctor first meets her as a child, Amy suffers psychological trauma when he fails to come back for her as he originally promised. At the time, Amelia is an orphan living with her aunt. He reappears 12 years later due to a fault with the TARDIS and discovers that she became obsessed by the 'imaginary friend' she came to know as the Raggedy Doctor (because of his appearance when he fell out of the TARDIS at first).
At the end of The Eleventh Hour, the viewer sees that Amy has a wedding dress in her wardrobe and in subsequent episodes she reveals that she left with The Doctor on the evening before her wedding. We meet Amy's fiancee, Rory Williams in the first episode of the series, and he first travels with Amy and The Doctor in Vampires Of Venice.
Amy makes amorous advances to The Doctor at the end of Flesh And Stone after her traumatic experience at the hand of the Weeping Angels. He rejects her, and reaches out to Rory to travel with them in Vampires.
The importance of Rory in Amy's life is cemented in the episode Amy's Choice, when Rory is killed in a dream world, forcing Amy to acknowledge how much she loves him. However, the companions travel to a Welsh village in the next two episodes - an adventure which involves the Silurians - and Rory is unexpectedly shot dead by a Silurian in Cold Blood. He dies close to a crack in the universe, which devours him as Amy and The Doctor watch from the TARDIS console. Amy promptly forgets Rory's very existence (a side effect of the cracks), but later discovers her wedding ring in The Doctor's pocket.
In The Pandorica Opens, Amy and The Doctor travel to Stonehenge in 102AD, where among other things Rory Williams turns up as a Roman centurion. Amy eventually remembers him, but he's actually an Auton duplicate of Rory, and because of his programming, shoots her in the stomach, killing her.
However, The Doctor places her in the Pandorica (The Big Bang), an alien prison which has technology to restore her. She's reawakened in 1996 by a younger version of herself who was led to the Pandorica by The Doctor. Amy escapes, and is reunited with The Doctor and Rory. After The Doctor enacts a plan to 'reboot' the universe, Amy's life is returned to normal, and her parents are brought back to life. She marries Rory, but at the reception various clues conspire and she 'remembers' The Doctor, bringing him back to reality. At the end of the night, both Rory and Amy choose to go travelling with The Doctor again.
