Being Erica (TV Series)

Being Erica is a Canadian television series which features a thirtysomething woman - the Erica of the title - visiting a therapist who helps her address mistakes in her life by sending her backwards in time to fix them.

Plot

Erin Karpluk plays Erica Strange, a down on her luck 30 year old who has problems in her career, her livelife and with her family. She is approached by a mysterious man calling himself Dr Tom (Michael Riley), who asks her to list the regrets in her life. When she picks one event from the list, he transports Erica back in time to try to resolve the regret.

Each episide of the series deals with Erica being sent back in time to face issues from her past, often seeing that her memory of events isn't as idealistic as the reality.

The series was created by Jana Sinyor and was originally to be called The Session before changing to Being Erica before the show first aired in January 2009.

Being Erica is produced by Temple Street Productions and distributed internationally by the BBC. It is currently airing its second series, which will run for 12 episodes.

Cast and Characters

Erica Strange (Erin Karpluk) - Erica is the central character in the series: a thirtysomething singleton with a lacklustre career and who blames her lack of success on bad decisions made in the past. When she meets Dr. Tom, he convinces her to list her greatest regrets. One by one, he sends Erica back in time to deal with these issues and to try and resolve them.

Dr. Tom Wexlar (Michael Riley) - The mysterious therapist who appears to Erica at the start of the first series. He appears to her in the present and during her trips into her past to offer vague advice that rarely helps her.

After arguing at the end of Season 1, Dr. Tom quits and is replaced, to Erica's dismay. However, Dr Naadia sends her back in Dr. Tom's past and tells her she must repay him be helping the younger version of Dr. Tom. The 1998 Tom is a drunk and violent character.
