Biography
Dannii Minogue was born Danielle Jane Minogue on 20th October 1971, the youngest child of Ron and Carol Minogue. She has an older brother and sister, Brendan and Kylie.
Dannii was a successful child actress, securing a role in the Australian soap opera Skyways in 1978 and later a role on The Sullivans.
She also became a regular on a Saturday night talent show, Young Talent Time, staying on that show from 1981 to 1988. She left Young Talent Time to join the cast of the popular soap Home And Away as tearaway teenager Emma Jackson.
Recording Career
Minogue signed a record deal with Mushroom Records in January 1989 and the following year released her first album, titled Dannii in her native Australia, but Love and Kisses in other parts of the world.
She followed up with a second album, Get Into You in 1993, but despite previous chart success, the album received poor sales.
During this time, Dannii ventured into film and television work, with a role in the movie Secrets in 1992 and co-hosting the UK breakfast show, The Big Breakfast in 1994. She continued with television presenting work through 1996 in shows such as Eggs On Legs, Disney Time and It's Not Just Saturday. She also hosted the UK chart show Top Of The Pops for a time in 1997.
In 1997, Dannii also made her theatre debut as Rizzo in Grease: The Arena Spectacular and was nominated in the 1998 MO Awards for "Best Female Musical Theater Performer".
Returning in the same year to her recording career, Dannii placed much more emphasis on dance music following remixes of her earlier material by Steve Hurley. Her third album, Girl was released in September 1997 and featured collaborations with Brian Higgins of Xenomania. Despite a positive critical reception, the album failed to make the top 50, but the singles were moderately successful, especially on the UK dance music charts.
