At the beginning of the series, Hiro is a simple office worker at Yamagato Industries in Tokyo, despite the fact that his father runs the company. He spends his days dreaming of escape from his dull corporate existence, and one day discovers he has the power to stop time.
His first attempt lasts only a moment, but successive attempts show Hiro's great power, culminating with him accidentally travelling to New York City roughly one month in the future.
First Season: Genesis
In the first series, Hiro drags his friend Ando to America on a self proclaimed mission to prevent the bomb he saw in his visit to the future. Hiro is tasked with stopping Sylar before the bomb explodes and before Sylar can kill Ando.
Second Season: Generations
In the second series, he is transported back to feudal Japan and meets his childhood hero, the legendary Takezo Kensei. To Hiro's disappointment, Kensei is not only a complete rogue, he isn't even Japanese!
Hiro falls for the swordsmith's daughter, Yaeko, and masquerades as Kensei to impress her and to bolster the legend that Kensei was a noble man. However, both men fall for Yaeko, but Kensei is angry with Hiro for betraying him when he finds out, and swears his revenge. Kensei captures them and hands them over to White Beard as prisoners.
Returning to present day New York, Hiro discovers that Kensei is still alive and posing as Adam Monroe and also that Monroe was the person who killed his father. Taking his revenge, Hiro buries Monroe alive.
Third Season: Villains
In the third series, Hiro meets his self-professed nemesis, a girl named Daphne who calls herself a speedster and who reveals that Hiro cannot stop time, merely slow it down so that it appears time has stopped.
Following his father's death, Hiro has become the head of Yamagato Industries, but a glimpse into the future shows him fighting with Ando, which ends in Ando displaying never before seen powers and shooting red electricity at Hiro, apparently killing him.
