Ianto Jones

Ianto Jones is a fictional character in the Doctor Who spin-off series, Torchwood.The character is portrayed in the series by the actor Gareth David-Lloyd.

Ianto formerly worked for Torchwood in Canary Wharf prior to the Cybermen invasion and relocated to Cardiff after the battle. His role with Cardiff Torchwood appears to be largely that of an administrator, although he became more involved in missions throughout series 2.

Ianto had a relationship with Lisa Hallett in London, but Lisa was partially 'upgraded' to a Cyberman and he harboured her in the basement at Cardiff Torchwood. However, when she was unable to fight her Cyberman programming, the other Torchwood members shot her, leaving Ianto mourning.

Later, Ianto and Jack become involved in a casual relationship, although things seem to progress between series 2 and Children Of Earth, and the pair are comtemplating their status as a couple.

On Day 4 of Children Of Earth, Ianto is killed by an airborne virus released by the aliens known as the 456. The release of the virus was an attempt by the 456 to show that they were serious in their threat to kill the human race. They seal off Thames House and release the virus, which slowly kills the inhabitants of the building. Ianto dies in Jack's arms.
