John Barrowman

John Scot Barrowman is a Scottish-born actor, dancer, singer and television presenter, best known for his role as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and its spin-off series, Torchwood.

In addition to this role, Barrowman has recently found success as a judge on BBC talent shows such as Any Dream Will Do and I'd Do Anything.

In his personal life, Barrowman is openly gay, and is in a civil partnership with Scott Gill. The couple have been together since 1993.

Biography

John Barrowman was born on 11 March 1967 in Mount Vernon, Glasgow. The Barrowman family lived there until 1976, when they relocated to Joliet, Illinois due to his father's job with Caterpillar. He graduated from Joliet West High School in 1985, but while in school displayed a skill for musical theatre.

Barrowman went to university in San Diego, eventually returning to the UK in 1990.
