Martha Jones

Martha Jones is a character in Doctor Who. Martha makes her debut as The Doctor's assistant in the first episode of series three, Smith And Jones. The character is played by actress Freema Agyeman.

When Martha is first introduced to the series, she is a medical student working in a London hospital. After her time with The Doctor, and playing a key role in overthrowing The Master's rule of the planet, she decides to return to Earth and stop travelling in the TARDIS.

She finishes her medical training, and goes to work with the military organisation UNIT, and is later briefly seconded to Torchwood (the character appears in the second series of Torchwood for three episodes).

Martha re-encounters The Doctor and his new companion Donna Noble when she summons him back to Earth to work with UNIT. After dealing with the threat of the Sontarans, she is inadvertently taken off in the TARDIS for the episode The Doctor's Daughter. She rejoins the TARDIS crew again at the end of the third series to fight against the threat of Davros and the Daleks.

At the end of the series, she and Mickey Smith are seen walking off with Captain Jack Harkness, with the implication that the pair may join Torchwood.
