Merlin (TV Series)

Merlin is a fantasy retelling of the King Arthur story, imagining the relationship between a youthful Arthur and Merlin. As the title suggests, Merlin is the focus of the series, forced to keep his magical abilities a secret, and also tasked with preparing Arthur for his future as ruler of Camelot.

The series is produced by Shine Limited for BBC One and has been granted the family drama slot previously given to Doctor Who and Robin Hood. It began production in March 2008 and first aired on BBC One on 20 September 2008.

A second series of Merlin was commissioned and began airing on BBC One in the UK in September 2009.

Cast of Merlin

• Colin Morgan as Merlin: a young sorcerer who attempts to keep his powers secret. Merlin lives with his mentor Gaius and works as a manservant to Prince Arthur.
• Bradley James as Prince Arthur: the future King of Camelot, Arthur struggles to remain loyal to his father while developing his own moral compass.
• Richard Wilson as Gaius: Camelot's court physician and one of the few to know Merlin's secret. Gaius holds a position of trust and influence with King Uther, having served the King for decades.
• Anthony Head as Uther Pendragon: Arthur's father and ruler of Camelot.
• Angel Coulby as Guinevere (Gwen): a servant and friend to Morgana.
• Katie McGrath as Morgana: Morgana is the ward of King Uther, who promised her father he would look after her. She has developing magical powers and suffers from nightmares and only Merlin and Gaius know of her abilities.
• John Hurt as The Great Dragon: Merlin's mentor and one of the few to know his secret. The Dragon often gives Merlin cryptic advice and warnings to help in his adventures.
