Biography
Glenister was born on 10 February 1963 in Harrow, England. His father is TV director John Glenister and he is the younger brother of Hustle star Robert Glenister.
He spent some time as a movie publicist until he decided to make the switch to acting, apparently prompted by a conversation with Richard E Grant.
I was working on a film with Richard E Grant, and told him I wanted to go to drama school. ‘Go for it, you c***,’ he said, and I did. Thank goodness.
Glenister then attended the Central School of Speech and Drama until 1990 before beginning a short career in theatre.
He subsequently carved out a successful career in television drama and has appeared in Hollywood movies such as Calendar Girls and Kingdom Of Heaven.
In 2006, Glenister married his partner of 9 years, actress Beth Goddard. The couple have two young children, charlotte and Millie. In the same year, he was catapulted to fame as the sharp-tongued Gene Hunt in Life On Mars. A second series aired in April 2007, and the character of Gene Hunt was reprised for the spin-off show Ashes To Ashes in February 2008.
In January 2009, Glenister appeared in the ITV primetime drama series Demons as the demon hunter, Rupert Calvin.
