The X Factor 2009
The X Factor 2009 is the sixth series of the UK reality TV series, The X Factor. The 2009 series retains the same judging panel and presenting team as the 2008 series. The division of contestants into four groups (under 25 males, under 25 females, groups and over 25s) will be retained and each judge will mentor one group.
According to reports, the Saturday night live shows will be extended to 2 hours long and ITV are introducing an elimination show on the Sunday night where the voted-off contestant is revealed.
The series was won on the evening of Sunday 13 December 2009 by Joe McElderry.

The four groupings for the 2009 series of The X Factor are listed below, with the judge/mentor and the finalists for each group.
Under 25 Males: Mentored by Cheryl Cole, the finalists in this group are:

- Joe McElderry (winner)
Under 25 Females: Mentored by Dannii Minogue, the finalists in the under 25s group are:
- Lucie Jones (eliminated)
- Rachel Adedeji (eliminated)

Groups: Mentored by Louis Walsh, the finalists in the groups category are:
- Miss Frank (eliminated)
- Kandy Rain (eliminated)

Over 25 Contestants: Mentored by Simon Cowell, the over 25s category are:
- Danyl Johnson (eliminated)
- Jamie Archer (eliminated)
- Olly Murs (runner-up)
Semi-final
The semi-final live show was held on Saturday 5th December 2009 and included Stacey Solomon, Joe McElderry, Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson. The contestants were each expected to sing one Michael Jackson song and another song of their own choosing.
The results show was aired the following evening, with special appearances by Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson. Danyl Johnson received the least public votes and was eliminated from the competition.
Final
The live final of X Factor 2009 will be held on the weekend of 12 December 2009. The three contestants remaining for the final are Joe McElderry, Stacey Solomon and Olly Murs.
Stacey Solomon was eliminated on Saturday 12 December 2009 with the lowest number of public votes. Olly Murs and Joe McElderry performed on the final of 13 December, with McElderry eventually winning the competition. His debut single The Climb (a Miley Cyrus cover) was released as a download after he won the show.
