Cher Lloyd’s performance on tonight’s [[The X Factor 2010|X Factor]] has to be one of the more bizarre songs ever – it’s a strange mashup of Blackstreet’s No Diggity and Tears For Fears’ Shout.
And tonight she’s giving us a hybrid of singing and rapping. Cher gets a mixed reaction in our household because I think she can sing in tune, it’s just that her voice isn’t particularly pleasant to listen to.
On her admittedly smart version of these two songs, Cher shows that she can sing and she attacks things pretty well on the stage. The only thing is, I really don’t care for her as a popstar. Even though I love the genre she clearly loves, I don’t like what she does. That’s not a reaction to what the papers say about her – it’s just my personal feeling. And I think the judges have a tendency to overstate how well she did.
- Louis Walsh: You took two brilliant pop anthems. I love what you did on stage. It was like you were in your comfort zone. I like your attitude, I think Brian Friedman did an incredible job, the styling was amazing.
- Dannii Minogue: Tonight this felt like you. This is what you would do at your concert. The staging of it was incredible. Absolutely mind blowing. Love the way you look…and you sang that really well.
- Cheryl Cole: I want to take this opportunity to thank you for being a strong little thing, and for allowing me to let myself loose a bit on there too. You are everything a popstar should be.
- Simon Cowell: I can only tell you Cher, it didn’t feel like you were someone taking part in a competition. It felt like you were someone who’d had five hit records and just came back with your new single. You are so confident. The two songs, very very clever. You look healthy, you look happy.
