X Factor 2010: John Adeleye impresses with a Donny Hathaway song

True fact: John Adeleye is one of the best singers on [[The X Factor 2010|X Factor]] this year. His voice is almost flawless.

Sad fact: Simon Cowell just told Cher Lloyd that she was “the future”. So a wonderful soulful singer like John might as well pack his bags and go home, because X Factor clearly favours weak-voiced faux-rappers over powerful singers like John.

John’s song tonight was Donny Hathaway’s A Song For You. Not the best known song in the world, but John gave a beautiful, understated performance. He was self-assured on stage and gave off the perfect amount of emotion. I love this guy, hope he really goes far in the competition. As long as Wagner doesn’t kill him with deodorant first.

Judges’ Comments

  • Dannii: I know that you are one of the most loved contestants in this year’s line up. It just radiates from you when you sing. You have such a natural voice. There’s a few people in this competition where you can turn off the visual and just listen to the voice. And you’re one of them.
  • Cheryl: That’s part of the beauty of being a performer is that you can put that emotion into a song and I really felt it from you tonight. Well done, John.
  • Simon: Unfortunately I’ve gotta hand this over to Louis and say that was a fantastic choice of song. I can see it in your eyes, John, that that meant a lot to you. You gave it 100%. It was a great performance.
  • Louis: You just came alive during that song. It was a very powerful and emotional performance.
