Final performance on tonight’s [[The X Factor 2010|X Factor]] was the controversial Katie Waissel. Quick recap: the public can’t stand her and she needs to win them over. So what’s her song choice? I Wanna Be Like You from The Jungle Book.
So in our living room we sat back and waited for a bloody good train wreck. Except it didn’t happen. Instead, Katie stormed the stage with a tongue in cheek version that was both musical and a wee bit funny as a line of looning dancers followed her around the stage.
I think it’s safe to say that for the first time, Katie proved that she can be entertaining, instead of irritating. She comes across as so media savvy and ‘trained’ that compared to Tasco Mary (who has also appeared on televised talent shows), it’s hard to believe that Katie was ‘picked from 200,000 members of the public.
At the same time, she’s actually a great singer. I think tonight’s performance made Katie much more likeable, but what do you lot think – can she win this show?
- Louis Walsh: At long last, Katie has arrived. This is the real Katie. She sang, she danced, she entertained. And she’s got The X Factor. You’re a little bit like Madonna, Gwen Stefani, I want people to vote for you!
- Dannii Minogue: That was a very clever twist on guilty pleasure. To do a song like that. I absolutely loved it. We saw the fun Katie that we saw in the first audition. And talk about doing choreography, that was really hard what you did up there. Brilliant. You didn’t falter on the vocals at all.
- Cheryl Cole: That’s exactly what you are, an absolute breath of fresh air. You couldn’t help but sing and dance to that track.
- Simon Cowell: Katie, liked you last week, absolutely loved you this week. That was absolute genius. Shouldn’t have worked. Did work. From one of my favourite films of all time, I think you are a total breath of fresh air. You take risks, you deserve to be here.
