I notice now that he’s on [[The X Factor 2010|The X Factor]], Matt Cardle’s dropped his little “I’m a painter and decorator” story. He lost it as quickly as he lost that hat.
Tonight, Matt’s guilty pleasure song is Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time. It’s a bit disingenuous to call this ‘his’ version, because Travis did a cover version in this vein a few years back.
Nice to see Matt playing guitar on this one, although I have my doubts that he’s actually plugged in. His voice is fantastic, and he takes the song to an impressive crescendo to finish. The audience are so loud that we can barely hear Louis when he starts to give his comments!
- Louis Walsh: Matt, everybody loved it here. When I first saw you at audition, I never imagined you singing a Britney Spears song. But tonight, you did the popstar thing, you made it your own. That version could be a number one record once again. I love the fact that you’re not predictable, you take a chance. You are unique in every way.
- Dannii Minogue: Matt, you are a guilty pleasure. These guys know who the popstar is. That’s the only version of that song I have in my head right now.
- Cheryl Cole: The best way to find out how you did is listen to them. That’s such an iconic song, 100% associated with Britney, but I felt like I was sitting in an unplugged session where I was watching an artist in an acoustic set.
- Simon Cowell: Matt, I’m gonna keep this short. It was absolutely incredible. Why I loved it was I like people who take risks.
