X Factor 2010: Treyc Cohen wants a Whole Lotta Love

After last week’s frankly horrible performance of Purple Rain, Treyc Cohen turns tock chick on us with her rendition of Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love.

For once, I don’t mind Brian Friedman’s elaborate staging – it’s like rock meets Lady Gaga. Treyc is wearing a sexy black dress with big feathered epaulettes and surrounded by dancers clad in skintight gear.

Vocals are spot on. She misses some of the typical Robert Plant soaring high notes, but still this was an eyecatching performance, no doubt about it. I’m gonna go back and watch this one later!

Judges’ Comments

  • Louis Walsh: I never thought I would ever hear anybody sing Led Zeppelin on [[The X Factor 2010|X Factor]]. You so owned that song. You’re like a rock chick. If Elton is watching – wow – this is a different standard on this show tonight. It’s so high.
  • Dannii Minogue: The vocals were phenomenal and it’s just a wonder why you weren’t out front singing years before this. I guess my question has been every week what’s your style and what’s your signature? But tonight I’ve never seen you look so happy on stage, so maybe it’s the rock thing.
  • Cheryl Cole: I have to give it to you Treyc. You haven’t been well, but I haven’t heard you moan and groan about it, but tonight you come out and unleash the rock chick.
  • Simon Cowell: It’s like a kitten that’s turned into a tiger in one week. I don’t think you quite nailed the big notes on that, like you lost your way a little bit. Having said that, this shows us the potential. We can throw literally anything at you.

I actually quite like Treyc but I think this song was not for her, I kind of had flashbacks to Leona Lewis singing it on top of the bus at the Olympics (and that is not a good memory).  I had hoped Treyc would go further than the likes of Cher and Katie, but I don’t think that will happen now.

I’ve already seem the ultimate cover of this song on a reality TV show done already by Adam Lambert (I bet you weren’t expecting that one 😉   )
